Cabela's duck stamp?
« on: October 25, 2014, 12:23:33 PM »
Beware of how Cabela's sells duck stamps.  I went into a retail store to buy one and they said they needed all my info.  I said you don't need that for a stamp?? Clerk said we mail you one and I said no.  After e-mailing them telling them how stupid that is to online shop at a retail store for duck stamps they called me back and explained how their receipt is legal?  I never heard of that and started reading about e-stamps are legal reading the back of the duck stamp. I asked oh you sell e-stamp felling embarrassed and my answer was he didn't know.  Then I pulled out the Washington regs and started reading on the phone to see if what they sell as stamps is legal in WA and nothing says what cabala's is selling is legal and the hunter's only option says signed duck stamp.  I explained just because cabela's sells battery decoys doesn't mean they are legal to hunt with.

State or Federal?  State is basically an E-stamp but then they will mail you your "endorsement" as part of your new license if purchased online.  Purchased at a store, they should just be printing you a new license with the state waterfowlk endorsement on it.  I don't think you can use your receipt that comes with this purchase as you need to sign your license.  You can buy a state "stamp" for a collection but is not needed for hunting.

A Federal Stamp can also be purchased pretty much anywhere that sells licenses, I bought mine at Ace Hardware this year and think I picked it up at Fred Meyer last year.  I don't believe there is any kind of "e-stamp" for the federal one, they either sell them, or they don't.  You can also swing by most Post Offices for the Federal Stamp.

Hope this helps OP.

Cabela's retail store only sells federal stamps by ordering.  They print you off a receipt that works as a real federal duck stamp until you get it in the mail they say.  My normal spot was out so this is what I learned later after I walked out.  Then I learned about e-stamp but cabela's could not tell me it was an e-stamp they were selling me.  The federal duck stamp on the back explains all about e-stamps but never read it before, just threw it in the garbage after peeling the stamp off. Copy and past below.

 E-Stamp Program
The Electronic Duck Stamp, or E-Stamp, allows customers to purchase the Federal Duck Stamp online and use it immediately. The E-Stamp is valid for 45 days from the date of purchase; within that time, a physical Duck Stamp will be mailed to the customer. After 45 days, the customer must carry their Federal Duck Stamp while hunting.

Currently, 12 states participate in the E-Stamp program. Below are links to those states that offer online license purchasing on their websites. Click on the state name to be taken directly to that state’s online license purchasing location. Anyone, regardless of what state you live in, may purchase an E-Stamp online through any of the states listed below.

If you have questions about purchasing an E-Stamp or experience problems during your online purchase, please contact the state from which you made the purchase, since that information will be in their system. Do not contact the Federal Duck Stamp Office. Also, it is important that you have a printer so you will be able to print the electronic stamp/receipt.

Was it the stamp or did you have to order it?

Next year for spring turkey I might just go to cabela's and get every thing now knowing we can get stamps by ordering.  My normal spot didn't have the option to buy the federal stamp in any way last spring to get it over with on one hit.

Cabela's doesn't physically have stamps but have to jump through a hoop to get them.  Called wally world and tell me they don't carry them and my normal retail store that I bought stamps for 10+ years were out. Also called the main post office in my town and they pointed me to another PO who had them.

I purchased my Federal stamp at Wal-Mart this year.  Along with my father-in-laws.  Might be pertinent to talk to the department manager.  After a few visits to Wal-Mart the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing in many cases with some of these guys.  :dunno:

It is up to the post master to get them ordered. They try and judge how many they will sell in a season and order accordingly.
The post master where I live did not have any of this years in, less than a week before the early opener.  Had some of last years still in the safe, told him he could toss most of them by Feb 1, but might be an idea to hang on to a few for collectors.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.
