You'd have a hard time ripping KUIU's Yukon Rain Gear .  I don't care if you swim in blackberries, that stuff won't rip  :chuckle:

Couple of my buddies bought that stuff.  The blackberries are so scared of that scratching/scraping noise coming up the hill that they part away from the path in fear.  I've seen and heard it myself.

Rivers West.   Not cheap, and you will sweat, but still has to be a lot better than that combination of layers you talked about

I have some rivers west rain gear. I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd rather wear PVC than RiversWest  :yeah:
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Are you guys serious?

I love my wool in dry cold weather, but when it's wet it's horrible. I just end up with 40 pounds of wet wool on my back.
:yeah: agree, I like my stormtight from first lite.

I agree with the River's West sentiment.

Also, I agree with the recent wool comments too.  I don't care to be completely soaked and weighted down with wet wool.  It's much more comfortable to be dry. :twocents:

I've been using the KUIU chugach the last few seasons. It worked well until my watershed experience this year and I got soaked. In defense of the gear though I don't think anything other than a rubber suit would have kept me dry though. I just picked up the KUIU yukon last month.

The Yukon stuff is great, but like any rain gear you shouldn't be wearing it if it isn't raining or at least windy. You're not going to find rain gear that keeps you dry, is durable and 100% quiet.

I have to disagree

I spent a ton of money buying Rivers West jackets and pullovers with no more benefit then PVC.
River west will make you sweat like crazy and the soft pile soaks up a ton of water.

I have quit buying any "Gortex" breathable waterproof coats, pullovers, or gloves. None have lived up to the advertisement.
They all have leaked or like Rivers West, do not breath and make you sweat like crazy.

I use Polartech Fleece in light rain and Grungens Patreous pullovers in hard rain.

Goretex jackets that advertise "waterproof" should be sued for false advertisement, along with all of the "scent blocker BS.

I've been wearing UnderAmour rain gear the past three or four years.  By far the quietest lightweight stuff I have ever used.  So far not a single leak and it still looks like it did the day I took it out of the package.  I'm very pleased with it!

I'll second people saying wool, but clarify that merino wool is the best base and mid layer you can buy for it's quick dry and naturally scent free qualities.  I'm going to a full on layering system next year, all merino with a good rain gear.  Whisper silent is great when it's dry, but you may just have to wear the rain gear til you spot animals then take it off when you're on a stalk and accept getting wet.  My setup will be merino base, shell jacket/pants that's water resistant/quick dry, then rain gear.

This season is so wet, I have given up on breathables and went to strictly PVC, but I am not moving either-boat hunting. Anyone know some med-heavy PVC brands with a camo pattern?

I have to second Alchase.

Stay away from Rivers West for all the reasons he stated.  One to add would be they were my worst customer service experience I have had to date with a company.

yup, unless your sitting in a tree stand not moving.  Rivers west sucks balls if your walking or hiking enough to sweat.
