Leupold Opics
« on: January 18, 2016, 02:13:57 PM »
My pup chewed up my pair of Leupold Cascade binoculars. Ate the eye ups, chewed off the focus nob and even chewed thru the armor coating pretty bad. I mailed them to Leupold for repair and explained what happened and they sent me a new pair no charge. I know why I have Leupold scopes on all my rifles.

I have tried to get them to bill me for damage that I caused through my own negligence and my kids have caused, but they won't hear of it.  There are two other like minded optics companies, who I will not name because this is a thread saluting our local friends and I don't want to detract from the shout out to them, but this is certainly what keeps me coming back and recommending Leupold decade after decade.

My many-years-old rangefinder started acting up this year, and would only range close (<100 yd) targets.  I sent it in for repair, and asked for an estimate before they performed the repair.  Instead, I got a brand new unit within ten days of mailing back mine.  No bill, just a brand new, updated version of my unit.

I only own one brand of optics now, and I don't anticipate that changing any time soon.

I own several Leupold optics, and do like their customer service.

However, I prefer to own optics that don't need service as often. :twocents:

Leopold has started doing this in response to the unbelievable warranty that comes with Vortex binoculars and scopes.  They have a unlimited warranty on all of their optics.  If you don't have a receipt and you beat it to death with a sledge hammer because your cereal got soggy and you were mad, they will fix or replace at absolutely no cost.  No questions asked.  Due to this warranty, Nikon, Leopold, Bushnell, and other optic companies have had to re-evaluate their "pain in the butt" warranty and repair options.  Thank Vortex for leading the way on this and helping all optics customers out.  Now this post is not meant to say that Vortex makes a better product or anything like that.  We all have our favorites and each brand makes low end to high end optics.  You get what you pay for.  But whether you use Vortex or whatever brand, thank them for holding all of the brands feet to the fire and giving us sportsman's a better warranty!!!

 :yeah:
I know they've been doing "no questions asked" exchanges since the mid 80's at least.
So, Thank You, Leupold, for showing Vortex how it's done.

I have dealt with Leupold for over four decades and their service has been 100% consistent.  It is no different today than it has always been.

You must be really hard on eqt.  I have sent optics to them for customization (target turrets, reticle changes etc) far more than I have for service.

The reason I made the above statement is not a slam on Leopold.  They do have excellent customer service.  I personally have never dealt with them.  My very good friend who is a manager for a large sporting goods store (I could mention the name but I wont.  I bet 90% plus of the members on this site have purchased hunting and fishing equip from them) told me that Vortex optics warranty has made all of the other companies re-evaluate their warranties and service departments.  This is a win win for all sportsmen involved.  I have heard hore stories from the Bushnell warranty dept. from friends that have had problems.

I have dealt with them a few times dealing with components, but the only scope of a few dozen I have owned that ever needed work was an old Leupold-Gilmore red dot sight. They hadn't made the scope in years but they contacted Gilmore and sent it to them.  Gilmore tracked down the parts, rebuilt the scope, and sent it to Leupold who sent it back to me all at no charge. I am also not known to be gentle on my hunting rifles but have never had a Leupold scope issue.

While he may be correct about some optics companies, Leupold's service is as good now as it was 30 years ago, before Vortex even existed.

Your manager friend is mistaken and it is unfortunate he's pushing out this kind of misinformation.  Leupold has long been the gold standard in terms of optics customer service.  Vortex is clearly copying the Leupold model.

Your friend was jiving you.  I used to run the largest volume hunting/shooting retail counter in the south sound area and if anybody set the benchmark Leupold is one of those who can lay claim to that distinction.

Maybe his buddy just had a visit by the Vortex rep, and still had the red upper lip stain from drinking the Koolaid...  :chuckle:

To be fair and prove I don't have a Leupold tattoo or anything, I just bought a pair of the Vortex Diamondback 10x42 when they were on sale for $129.  Awesome glass for that kind of money.

I’ve owned and used sport optics from many companies: Leupold, Vortex, Bushnell, Bausch & Lomb, Zeiss, Leica, Swarovski, Nikon, Fujinon, and some others I’ve probably forgotten about.

It would be impossible for me to rate any of them higher than Leupold for customer service.

On the other hand, I’ve not needed customer service on nearly all the others.

My only experience with Leupold customer service came from my dropping Grandpa's rifle on the rocks, breaking the seal and letting the scope fog up.  Not Leupold's fault - but they replaced his well used, 27 year-old scope with a brand-new model @ no charge.  Postage paid.

I've owned several since then, no problems.

They actually used to do final assy on Leica binoculars in Beaverton.  I have one 9x25A that is Leupold branded and had another 7x20A that was Leica branded and they were identical except for power.  Both powers were available as Leica or Leupold and armored and unarmored, and those in the know would seek out the Leupolds because they were less money.  I got mine as part of a SPIFF program when I sold sporting goods.  They used to have the 7x30, 9x35 and 10x40 I.F. Poros made in Japan.  I still have a pair of 10x40s these are great binoculars.

The Leupolds were their Gold Rings at the time
