A 10 ft bear isn't as common as folks think. Holy smokes. That's big.

 

Well it all depends on the guide and if he chooses to do a little stretching. Mine was 9'11" un stretched. A lot of time its all about the skull.

When I was packing and guiding hunters in ID and MT,  it was my life's goal to be a brown bear guide.   You ever elk hunt Kodiak?

I've been on a few elk hunts. Some in Alaska and some in Washington.

Was meat taken from this bear ? Not sure I understand. A monster of a bear, but was only the head and hide taken ?

Did the bear have an injury on its nose? in some of the pictures it looks like he might have taken a bullet square to the schnoz, you can see in the skull pics that this isn't what happened but his nose looks a little tore up? would be cool mount with old battle scars and busted tooth, love character in taxidermy

My guess would be a lung shot and the bear coughing up blood as he expired.

Certain places and times of the year it's legal to leave the meat on a bear in Alaska.  My friend brought home the meat off his bear one year from prince of whales Is from a spring hunt, terrible meat, even the sausage tasted like crap.
