Best mount for trophy goat
« on: May 17, 2016, 10:20:56 AM »
Okay, I just put in for all my special permits.  :IBCOOL:  Mt. goat is always one that makes me thinks of what I would do if I actually killed one.  I mean mount wise.  A while back I realized that I really didn't want a full body mount but just a head mount seemed to be a waste of that cool white coat.  So I've came to the conclusion that a rug would be best.  This would show off both the horns and the pelt.

I was just wondering what other folks have done or plan to do with their trophy goat-osaurus.  Pictures would be cool too.

I really don't have the room for a full mount, but if I ever kill one, it's getting a full mount climbing rocks mode.  Curious to see pics of good looking rugs or half mounts.

I got a shoulder mount and had the back half tanned.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Due to this being a once in a lifetime hunt and animal and to give the true value  of that animal I went with a full mount. It's not just the size of horn but the quality of the coat which includes long chaps and good beard. Remember most life size take up less room the an a rug .

Whats the footprint size of your full body mount with that base? I really want a full body mount (like I really want a goat tag) but I have limited space.

Will try to get a pic up later.

29x29 is not as big as I was expecting, having the animal on an incline must really help. Looks cool that way too, thanks for the info.

IMHO, goats and sheep require a full body mounts.  Just factor in a house remodel to the cost of those hunts!    :chuckle:

For those that know me, it probably doesn't come as much of a surprise that I've spent a lot of time studying goat mounts.  My dream is to have a house with a hug evaluated ceiling and a huge stone fire place.  I want to build a spot into my fireplace to have a mountain goat climbing the rocks.

I think the mount really depends on what you are trying to show off about your goat.  If you have a great hide, you really can't go wrong with a full body mount as you are showing off the goat know matter how it is positioned.  But if you shoot a monster billy, you may want to position the goat head down (climbing down) as opposed to climbing up to really show off the big horns.

Ultimately for me, I'm partial to the climbing up as opposed to climbing down as it just seems more like what I see in the wild when I photograph and watch mountain goats (which I do a lot!)

Here are some mounts from Monarch Taxidermy Inc which has some of my favorite goat mounts I've found.

Here are some various shorter haired goat mounts.  Personally I'd probably just go for a shoulder mount for a short haired goat.

Ehh, I'll be happy for whoever gets it...particularly if it's me.  Ha, ha!  I'm hoping all the time, money and energy I've devoted over the years to fighting for our hunting rights and wildlife conservation will be chalked up as good Karma.  Fingers crossed!

As far as the mounts go I don't recall ever having seen a mountain goat rug until I thumbed through this thread.  It wouldn't be my first choice for my first goat, but it was surprisingly nice looking the way it turned out.

Regards,

Allen
