With regular maintenance how long should a bow last you?

 a good bow should last forever if properly taken care of.

A LONG TIME!!!  It will more or less come down to how soon you want a new bow to keep up with the technology and "the jones"..

Don't be fooled by all the ads...you can buy a 5 year old bow collecting dust on some pro shop's rack, and it will serve you very well.  Of coarse, you will need to find a bow that fits you and your shooting preferences.  I have a Darton Viper from '95 that has put down a lot of big game - elk, bears, caribou, deer, etc.  Still shoots as good as the day I set it up.  I use it for a back up bow now, but there is nothing wrong with older bows.  By the way, you can still buy a Darton Viper on-line for around $230

Longer than the shooter.  Dont dry fire it. maintain the axles and bushings.

With regular maientence ( waxing strings/replaces cables and strings every 2 years max... having it cleaned/tuned yearly) then as long as you want....

I dropped my moose using a Mathews Z-Lite my wife bought me back in 1995. Take care of them and they will last for a long time

My buddy still shoots his recurve for elk that he had made in the 70's.  It still sticks them good.

I shoot mine 2 years, then replace them, but I replace only to create desire to shoot in the off season.

You will probably want a new one before you wear the current one out.
