Yup just like how they suppress those damn geese hunters in the SW portion of the state by making them take a species test.

The goose test is once. This test is annual. I don't know how much it will suppress bear hunting but it is a ridiculous hurdle to require it annually.

I’m willing to bet that the wdfw instituted this new hurdle as a direct result of monitoring local hunting and hiking pages on Facebook. They see every time someone posts a photo of a cinnamon or blond phase black bear the people who argue that it’s a grizzly bear because it has a “hump.” Surely this is the reasoning for the test.

I took the test and then I had both my sons take it.  It changes up the questions each test.  They definitely try to give you some weird angles.  If they allowed baiting again, you would have lots of time to ID the bear at hand.

I think testing is a good step. Shooting a grizzly by mistake is bad for the shooter, for WDFW, and or all hunters.

Several grizzlies have been accidentally shot by hunters in NE WA thinking they were black bear. We have quite a few of them around now and numbers seem to be increasing. I require all my guides to take the test in several states every year before guiding just to take every precaution to avoid accidentally shooting a grizzly. The more of these tests you take the more quickly you identify bear in the photos. When you are out hunting lots of times the bear you see will only offer a quick look, a person needs to know what type of bear at first glance to be safe.

WDFW used some good bear pictures too, so I applaud that!  I especially like the low light bear pics.  They also need some tree stand pics where you're looking down on the bear.

I got 100% also on the first try. Never needed a second look when in Alaska but some of those pictures were tricky.

  I agree, I liked the fact that some photos were more distant and in tough to see situations.

I took that one just now and got 87%, missed 2 questions.  Again, im not a bear hunter either.  I'll keep taking these different tests before I hit the field though as I dont want to be 'that' hunter who shot a grizzly.

Montana's test is 15 questions.

Taking the test is one thing, having to take it every year, and especially carry a stupid paper proving you did it is what is crazy.
