Canadian decision means no caribou will roam the Lower 48

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A decision by Canadian wildlife officials means that caribou will no longer inhabit a small portion of the Lower 48 states.
After decades of trying to reintroduce the animals into Idaho and Washington, Canadian officials have decided to relocate the six remaining survivors in the United States farther north into Canada.
The Spokesman Review says biologists hope to breed the animals in captivity north of Revelstoke, British Columbia.
The South Selkirk caribou herd was the only one living in both the United States and Canada. It ranged through the high country along the crest of the Selkirk Mountains near the international border. The remaining 14 or so herds are all in Canada. It's estimated that fewer than 1,400 mountain caribou are left in North America.

Good decision. It was a losing battle in this day and age, financially, and that it would never amount to what it was designed to do. Sad, but true. :twocents:

100% agree
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

You are correct they are woodland caribou.

:yeah:

Probably the best decision given the situation.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
