How do you clean your cooler?
« on: October 04, 2020, 09:05:28 PM »
So now that my seasons are over, time to clean coolers good.
Got a few marks, smells, and discoloring.

I know the bleach and the vanilla tricks.
Any other suggestions?

Dawn dish soap and magic eraser.  Bleach if that doesn't get it all.

Simple green and a tuffie, plastic style
It also helps get rid of the fish smell

Fill with water and some bleach.  Only way to go.  Leave it for a bit and it's clean.  I've saved coolers that had fish in them for months and made you damn near puke when you crack the lid.

A couple years ago, I had some dill pickles leak early on a 14 day hunt trip. Everything smelled and tasted like dill pickles. It took a few serious scrubs attempts to get the pickle smell out.

Water and bleach and then close the lid throw it in the back of the truck and drive around for a few days and just like new.

This cleaned up a Yeti 120 that had 2 dozen herring left in it for over a month.  :puke: :puke:

Try to keep them clean and dry.  Biggest thing is don't store them closed.  If they get something that could be funky or possibly dangerous if ingested I'll give them a quick wipe down with a lysol type wipe.  Biggest issue is closing them when anything moist is in them, they are a perfect incubator.  Keep them open to fresh air.

Yup I keep mine stored open on their side so any water or moisture runs out. If I can't keep them on their side I at least put a rolled up piece of cardboard or something in the lid to hold it open so it doesn't get all nasty after sitting wet and closed up.

I tell my son to do it. When I was his age, I rinsed the chunks out, good bleach soak and shake, then dish soap brush scrub, then bleach again to finish.
