I noticed it and approve!

 :yeah:

Sounds good to me. The last few weekend trips into the woods I saw about 17 grouse. It seems like they had a good winter.
If you want to make it,
you can't fake it,
you gotta live it.

Awesome! I didn't realize that.  I'm not exactly a grouse hunter, but if I need to get out in the woods and I don't have any other tags I'll bring a shotgun incase I see some.

well limit of 4 and hope they went to 12 in possession instead of 9.

The funny part is that it was given as "opportunity". F&W admits that they don't even have a population estimate and they know that this could be detrimental to localized populations.

Only one commission member questioned the reasoning.

Yes, they did. I am actually surprised that they though about it. :chuckle:

Cant wait till I can shoot some.  One almost gave me a heart attack today.  I was in some really heavy brush. I couldnt see more than 20 yards throught the branches.  A male started doing that wing thumping thing they do.  Scared the crap out of me.  Sounded like something was running at me.   :yike:  I did discover that I can draw that 6.5" barrel pretty fast before I figured out what it was.
How lucky you are, Kain - you found a grouse's drumming site!  I've spent quite a few hour afield lately trying to locate drumming logs or rocks. Found a few, and got some nice pics, but I'd love to find some more sites before they stop drumming for the year.   A site has to be just right for me to get the quality of photos that I'm looking for, so the more drumming logs I find, the better the chances are that one will be set up just right for good photo possibilities.  Perhaps you found a perfect site!

I know on average ruff grouse will drum every four minutes give or take 30 sec.  I use to run grouse transects for the Feds and that was how we estimated  populations.  We would basically listen for 4-5 minutes and count how many grouse drummed within that period of time.  I have found lots of drumming sites in Washington.  cool pics...I have had ruff grouse  hens act like they were hurt (broke wing) to divert my attention from her clutch of chicks...pretty cool.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

I got one this morning driving from Cheney to Curlew around the Loon Lake area, at 65 mph they look like a down pillow exploding.  :chuckle:
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
