Hey guys so I drew wenaha for spring bear, super excited. Haven’t hunted spring bear before.

Im hoping somebody who has experience in the area could give me some info on timing as far as snow and trail access, obviously every year is different and I’ve heard there is a good snowpack and may not melt off as quickly as recent years past (I don’t know).

I looked at the blue wood ski area website and they have over 100” of snow currently and still snowing. I’d hate to drive all the way from snohomish county 6+ hrs and not be able to get in to the unit to scout effectively.

Anybody that lives or frequents the area that is willing to share info it would be much appreciated. Maybe just a point of contact.

Good luck, I know next to nothing but when I had a different spring tag the advice I kept getting was to not waste all your time and money early.  If you are at all on a budget for either then plan your trips late.

Went up in that area a few years ago in late May to do some morel hunting.  Went in from the north on Kendall Skyline, which was still snowed in and impassible somewhere around 4500-5000 feet.  Got off on some finger ridges in the 4000-4500 fit range just below snowline and found some morels...  Anway just something to be aware of as far as access - Coming in from lower trailheads in the south might be your best bet.

I might do a solo camping trip up in the Blues in April sometime if i get my chores done. The "working from home wife" could probably use a break from me. I'll report road conditions if i do.

The spring bear hunting threads are my favorite to follow.

believe it was June 18th, extended season last year. And it was about 6 am when I pulled the trigger, still hadn't had my coffee yet!!  Man that was a great solo trip!!!  One of my best hunts.

We had to hike couple road miles past snow drift to get to trailhead.

If you cant wait until the end of May you will likely not be accessing the parts of the wenaha around bluewood . Prior to that the snow pack keeps you coming in from down by Troy with everyone else.. Be patient and look for onions.. Fun hunt if you wait for the right time..

Also dont forget your tote full of hunting gear once its packed and ready to head over the hill
