Commission has to vote on the revised season proposal. So its not dead, but it looks like we will see the leanings of the new appointees in the next couple months.

They plan on having a meeting regarding the spring bear issue, Feb 11th (although that date isnt currently on their schedule, it was talked about being added). Regardless, the rule making process is started.

PUBLIC COMMENT WILL BE ACCEPTED again very soon. It will be imperative we all comment online and if available, SIGN UP to speak during the public comment period which will happen between Mid to early Feb and prior to March 17-19th.

They are shooting for a season start date May 1st, if it does happen.

GET ACTIVE people.

There is hope, I doubt we see the same levels as last draw cycle though, but I figure they'll throw us a bone and maybe a 50% or more reduction in tags

There is some interesting language in the new update on the WDFW Spring Bear web page.  I am curious what determines the "statutory authority".  It would be pretty awesome if the director could approve the hunt himself and take it out of the commissions hands.

I'm no expert ......
But I thinking that's just to get the CR thing started.
Not to approve the hunt ,but at this point who knows.
If he has the power to approve it ,why didn't he do that before this BS started.

It also says "depending on statutory authority."

The cynic in me sees it going down on a vote with the new appointees.

I'm also thinking we are at ......
Do or die
Moment of truth
Critical mass
Gas pedal is on the right.
All that jazz......
Cause if they don't approve it now,why the heck would they approve it next year.
Proof is in the pudding with these new Commission members, where gonna see if hunters should get bent or not.
It will be a look into our future I'm sure.

All 3 new commissioners or on a commission meeting right now re: cougars...might give us a sense of how they lean.

One thing is for sure; if we lose spring bear this year, it’s never coming back.
Take that to the bank.

Agree.

Listened to parts of the meeting today on cougars. All 3 new commissioners were on.  Rowland seems as bad as lorna smith.  Tim ragen...not real sure, didn't seem as bad as smith, but also didn't say anything that makes me think he is supportive of hunting.  Lemkuhl (sp?) - i still have slight confidence can be an important 5th vote on spring bear.  H  e didn't say a lot when I was listening, but I didn't hear any alarm bells either and he seemed logical.

Do you remember when he stepped to take the heat on banning fishing not long ago? Venezuela Jay’s lapdog doing something in favor of hunters is a pipe dream.
