Son's first deer
«

October 30, 2023, 10:20:18 AM »
My 10 year old just passed hunter safety this summer, and I've been trying to get him on a deer. We've hunted pretty hard the past couple weeks without seeing much at all. Saturday morning my plan was to get us in the treestand well before light, but it was cold and we got a late start. We got out there late- about 9:30 but were blessed to see a nice blacktail spike warming up in the sun in a clearing about 90 yards from our treestand. We didn't even make it into the tree, my son took the shot from the bottom of the ladder, using it for support.
Great sunny morning, and a great memory with my son!
Happy kid, proud dad!

Congrats to your boy because I am learning trying to get a youngster on a deer is pretty tough. I'm still trying to get my 10 yo daughter her first deer, but the only bucks we have seen in Vail have been button bucks. Might try to get her out tomorrow afternoon if I can swing getting off early.

My sons first buck was a spike, he huddled up around that dang thing for hours. Thank god it was cold out. Congratulations, memories are made not of the kill but of the “memories “. I think you may have many of this hunt👍👍 congratulations again.
