Bull elk permit for GMU 621
« on: May 12, 2024, 07:58:12 PM »
I'm hunting westside muzzleloader elk this year with my son-in-law and the only Bull draw close to where we are hunting is 621. I have 18 bull points and we would be doing a partner application. Is this unit any good? I'm retired now and will have time to scout. Or should I keep my points for the Eastside for another time?

I don't know that unit, but I can't imagine any of the bull hunts (not Quality) are going to be too extra special if you don't know the unit very well, eastside or westside.

I've spent a bit of time in the unit, I wouldn't consider using my points in it  :twocents:

I personally think you’d be wasting that many points on a 621 tag. They can hang out on private a lot, and the quality of bull isn’t that great. I’ve talked with some past tag holder who felt is wasn't worth the effort/points. I live 30 minutes away from 621 and have family ground on the Quilicene River. Even with access and a house in the unit I don’t bother applying for that tag.

Westside muzzy means 3 pnt min your chances are almost as good in the general season for wherever you planned on hunting.
I wouldn't try and burn points in 621. Isolated herds that know where to go during the season. Allot of rayonier land with heafty access fees. And the State land gets hit pretty hard by the tribes.

Had that tag a couple years ago. Lots of elk, just no where I had permission to hunt. I've heard rumors of big bulls up by the park boundary. I never found any  :chuckle:

I wouldn't apply again unless I had permission from landowners on the duck or dosi rivers. :twocents:

Had the tag last year. Found some elk but most I couldn't get to. Got on some private timberland but only found old sign. Owners did say it was pretty hit or miss for elk to be on any of their properties. One five by five. By the time I got a hold of owner someone else shot it and I just found a gut pile when I got back.

Tough hunt 99% of elk are on private and people think they are pets. Better OTC general tags for sure

Judging from all the negative revues, it's probably a "honey hole"

Seem's like some guy killed a bull in the school yard or close to it a few years ago. Didn't go over too well with the locals.

One was shot and wasted there. And one up Off Dosie road just a ways from the school.

Go here:  https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/management/game-harvest

And then Elk: Individual hunts for the various years to see how it has historically done.

I def would not put 18 points on that unit. There’s a few good bulls that migrate down for the rut but end up on private. 636 would be my pick over 621

I wouldnt hunt that unit if it were over the counter cow tags. Let alone a bull tag. And most certainly wouldnt waste a single point there for a permit.

There are so many otc units to kill a bull in. On top of that they have greater odds too!
