Elk camp upgrade/luxury item?
« on: Yesterday at 08:30:48 PM »
Yep.. I know some of you wild Bohemians have a pretty extravagant Elk camp. What is the/a one thing that you’d recommend above and beyond the standard pack list for the next elk camp?  I’ll start. I use the heck out of the Camp Chef propane powered oven. Bake, reheat your frozen camp chow, name it… works like a champ.

Well a solid crapper is high on everyone list.

But one of the handiest things lately has been a Rinse Kit.

I use it for dishes , cleaning game, cleaning equipment, putting out camp fires ,and taking a shower.
Also cleaning fish.

We were heading up the road into the woods one year when a group was headed out. They stopped us and gave us directions to their camp. They had brought up two cords of wood and used less than half and urged us to take all or as much as we wanted/needed. We took two pickup loads up after we got our camp set and that was the funnest, warmest camp I’ve ever had. Not having to ration wood and just always have a fire going outside and inside the tent was awesome. We never could get the logistics to work out to do it ourselves but every year I always wished we had the same luxury.

Quality cot pad. It really sucks waking up to a sore hip or shoulder because of a lame cot pad. A good night's rest after a long day of hunting is very important for an enjoyable and hopefully successful hunt.

We use a popup shower.  Heat water in your 3 gal pot, drop pump with hose on it in pot and shower.  Nice.

Then Starlink of course for football games.  Sets up in 30 seconds.

I’d take a really nice 24 foot RV trailer and
generator
Just like home away from home 🤣👍

I will add that I bought a hybrid pickup with the onboard generator and that was pretty slick. I would get up in the morning and when I went out to take a leak, flip my pickup over to generator mode. I would hear the microwave turn on, the coffee maker start and my little electric heater fire up. Made it nice and cozy while I ate breakfast with a fresh cup of coffee and a warm tent

We wall tent out hunts so for me.....it has to be a quality throne (AKA: crapper)!!  A warm place to sit down and deal with the aftermath of camp cooking is a must!!  No more rushing, pulling up your man undies before you get a thorough (warm) wet wipe in or even worse......putting a finger through wet TP because your not protected from the elements.   :yike: :yike:

We always put our tp in a plastic snap lid coffee container, keeps the elements and mice out.  :twocents:

We keep our in sealed ammo cans.  Wet wipes and TP in one......blue shop style paper towels in the other.   :chuckle: :chuckle:  The ammo cans are screwed to the crapper and will keep bears out.   :chuckle: :chuckle:

The coffee can's work really well and are used in Canada by our moose guide.

Side note....those blue paper / shop towels are pretty soft and work really really well for cleaning.

The wall tent on the wet side was a huge upgrade over a motor home in the mid 80’s . A wood stove to dry stuff out and stay dry. It wasn’t long after the Coleman camp oven was the next best thing growing. The smell of hot apple pie outside of the tent was pretty nuclear.Lots of little stuff was added of the years. Adding a generator and freezer was a game changer also. No need to make sure there were bags of ice for several coolers. Gallon jugs were cycled as needed through the freezer. A#1 on my list will always be the extremely hot showers that made everything wonderful along with clean socks and underwear. A very nice stiffy after that was perfect.I remember guys bragging about going all season with no shower. Damn how brutal!

A good trailer with heat, shower, toilet, fridge and a queen size bed is luxury for me. Especially if you also do a camp in a tent in the same year you really appreciate the trailer.
