Crp land??

I am somewhat new to the Tri cities, I was talking to a guy about places I could deer hunt, he said it is ok to hunt the crp land, I researched it but not sure exactly what it is, does someone has a picture of it or a good description of what it is. Thanks

CRP is a program where landowners are payed to have natural grasses planted on their land. it makes great habitat but it can also be posted. There's a ton of it around here and some is feel free to hunt while other sections are posted. you might want to get out and check it out before the season.

  defiantly make sure you check because not all crp land is open to public it can vary on what it looks like because not all the seed blends are the same it depends on the program and the landowner choice of what he wants to throw into the required mix

Also, sometimes it's opened to bird hunters and not deer...definitely talk to the landowner before hunting it.

It doesn't need to have actual signs to be "no hunting"  so your friend is incorrect. Get permission and you'll be good to go. Good luck

I figured he was incorrect in any crp land being ok to hunt, I think I have figured out what land is crp, it must be whole plots of land planted with whatever seed it is, I have found many plots around here that are feel free to hunt and have the same vegatation, they are all flat and dont appear to have anywhere to hold deer though.

Try the wdfw 'go hunt' interactive map.  It will show green dots - many are feel free to hunt CRP areas.  I know guys that do very well on CRP land for basket rack mulies and younger whitetails.

...I could be wrong, but I thought all CRP land was supposed to be accessible to the public for hunting...  didn't think owners could post it

the farm that i hunt is all in CRP, and i thouht the same thing... it seems like the deer really like the tall gras. they will bed anywhere in it. and where i hunt they hold tight and then bust out from like 10 yards. and scare the poo out of me.

Land that is enrolled in the CRP (Conservation Reserve Program) is private land and you must have permission to hunt it. I'm not sure where people get the idea that it's open to the public for hunting

CRP is a federal subsidy program and there has always been the argument that taxpayers have the right to access such properties..however there are lots of pastures, grass fields, out ground that may look like CRP and aren't.  The only way to know for sure is to visit the local FSA/NRCS office..they maybe able to provide answers.  I feel it is better to find out who owns the ground and try and secure permission prior to entry anyways.

There are some CRP tracts that the WDFW required landowners to require public access for help with federal requirements to qualify for CRP..bird guzzler installation, tree/shrub planting...however most of these agreements are posted by WDFW as walk in only hunting or feel free to hunt.

IMO..CRP also comes in all shapes and sizes..different grass mixes will sometime provide little to no benefit to wildlife and some will provide lots of benefits.

All CRP is not feel free to hunt guys. Believe me. I know many many crp plots in Whitman that are lease only or just plain closed. If it's feel free to hunt it'll have a green sign that says so. In washington private land DOES NOT NEED TO BE POSTED by the landowner. We can debate whether this should be allowed or not and I do have some opinions but don't want to air them. Just trust me, if the wrong landowner catches you on his land your may get a visit from a sheriff.

something else to consider is irrigated land along the Snake and Columbia, some farms are accessible to hunting but it's walk-in only and I believe you need too notify farm management as well.

100% agree with gutpile, have hunted whitman county my whole life for birds. Even if its CRP you still have to get permission and most of it is going to posted in that area anyways. If its not you should always ask before going on private property.

My family has alot of land that we use to farm wheat on but within the last couple years because of the cost of diesel we have let go to CRP, most of our land has been posted as "Walk in only hunting", reason for that is grass is pretty tall and hot mufflers can start fires quick. Some CRP is posted depending on the land owner and even if it isn't, that does not mean that the land is not private. Even if the land may be flat , if there are deer in the general area chances are there will be deer bedded down in it. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info guys, I guess I will have to check some of these spots out, I have seen many of these plots around areas where ther a lot of deer.
