What is the point of the game warden cutting the head off and letting it go to waste? Why not donate the animal to food shelter or offer it to the guy who turned the hunters in? If so would you have been willing to tag if you had the option?

Another master hunter bites the dust. Wonder if he will continue to be an instructor.
Mistakes can truly happen to anyone. You still have to take responsibility and more so if you leave. Lazy on the part of the officer. Nearly every time I have been around the officer looks for a home for the meat and most often makes the offender pack it out.

In such an instance the warden should have tried to recover the slug and pursue the case. that is their job.  They screw off 7 months out of the year.  I know for a fact that around my parts that wouldnt have gone down that way.  It is everyone of ours responsibility to see to it that they do their jobs and we do ours.  I have no problems with game management officials, they have a job and duty just like any of us do at our jobs.  As for donating the animal for use at a foodbank etc. that hasnt been utilized in Wa. state for years.. to much liability or some bureaucratic B.S.  If things were as stated the witnesss(s) should have been alotted the ten points in the case of conviction.  Some Gamies dont deserve the title or the job though and that is just how our society works!

I would do the same thing as you,

Joebear,  I totally agree with all the you said, and I know this was not you but just asking what would you do in this scenerio??

I am asking this because one time in Alaska I was on a moose, I watched  him for about 25 minutes and knew he was not legal when I seen a couple of other hunters on the ridge. I watched them for a few minutes and actually threw the bino's up on them and seen that they were about to get into a good rest to pull the trigger. I put 3 rounds into the dirt about 25 yards from me and that scared the moose off and it also startled the crap out of them. I caught up to them later in the day, and told them the moose was not even close to being legal and their comment was well at that distance it looked legal. So just asking if anyone would have done the same thing??

Like I said I know it was not you that observed but justy looking for opinions???

Joe

I'm not suprised that they didn't try to salvage the meat.  I reported something up the Clockum, and talked to a gamie prior to that.  He had a big bull in the back of his rig and was driving about 50 mph up the clockum road to respond to all the calls he had.  The officer I reported to had been working nonstop all weekend and was in Monday morning early trying to catch up on all the calls and messages he had.  It was probably a case of too much to do and not enough time to do.  According to the officer I talked to, there were only 2 to 3 officers working the whole clockum area.  They are spread awefully thin...

That's why they call the Master Hunter volunteer hours work sheet, the liar sheet. I know the WDFW has been trying to put more teeth into that program. This kind of thing should make them think about making the whole lot retest and hopefully weed out vermin like that guy!

This is not the first story involving criminal behavior committed by someone with "MH" status.  Though I support the idea of the MH program and those who participate lawfully, I refuse to participate myself as I will not in any way be associated with a group that includes in it's membership those that commit these sort of offenses.  What a disgrace.

was it a cop or a game warden? you said cop. i don't see that a cop would even touch the animal without first calling wdfw.

i have a hard time with the fact they cut the head off and left the rest lay. never heard of that happening before.

If you got the guys name you should probably throw it out there, who wants their kids learning from that guy? i know i sure wouldn't. And if he didn't pay for what he did by losing his licence, he should at least have to pay through shame..

Throwing a name out there is also called slandering until the guy is proven guilty. I myself no matter what I seen or was involved with would never put a name out there, I myself VALUE everything that I have. Not saying that I disagree with it, I am just saying it is a  :bdid: :bdid:   to do that.

As a HE instructor and a MH...I can TELL you that he is DONE with both if convicted...and is suspended from HE and I think MH until its run its course. Even so he may get booted even if not convicted...under the color of making the program look bad.

And we as HE instructors WILL know about it.
A Smith & Wesson Beats Four Aces.

Whatta ya mean I can't have one of each?

What we have here is...Washington Department of NO Fish and WATCHABLE Wildlife.

WDFW is going farther and farther backwards....we need FISH AND GAME back!
