pretty sure we wont be seeing this guy on here any more. he probably got the hint that this web site is for hunters with ethics and he doesn't fit the mold

His story said he was hunting the last day of early season and he spotted a spike. Couldn't get any closer than 103 yards, so he took a shot from there. He saw the spike drop and then there was a picture of a spike elk with an arrow in the back of its head. The post has since been deleted by him.

Check out the post "found a little suprise in my elk meat"  you see how many people find arrows and other stuff in their animals.  This is because of some honest hunters with ethics, we all make mistakes, but mostly due to idiots like you who think they are not going to get to fill their tag filled and would rather take a chance.   :bash: >:( >:( :bdid:

Now that is a *censored*bag move!  Either you are lying about the whole thing or you are a grade A moron!  Wow, how can any "hunter" be proud of an asinine shot like that?   >:(

I took a 100 yard shot once, but I knew the elk had been liver shot already (not by me) and just tried to stick another hole in him.  I had been practicing to 100 yards, just for fun, that summer and could hit a paper plate 5/6 shots.  I missed low by about 2 inches just under his chest and ended up getting close enough to put one in the lungs at 20 yards after shooting over him at 12 yards (a little "buck" fever).  This was also the first year i ever elk hunted.

Just because you can hit a target at 60, 70, 80 yards doesn't mean you should shoot at an animal at that distance, just too many variables.....

I have killed 2 deer at 60 yards, first 2. I was 1. cocky 2. young and 3. very comfortable shooting that distance. I used to shoot my bow a lot more than I do now, but now I prefer to hunt blinds or stands and keep the shots at a stones throw. I would still take a shot at that distance (60 yds) if the conditions were perfect, but we all know that conditions are never perfect. And besides the confidence is not the thrill, the outsmarting and getting in close is the thrill. I even spot and stalk my kids and cats in the house just to see how high they will jump.

It's guys like you that make the stereo-type that archers are meat waster. I f you truly made that shot chalk it up as a freakin miracle and hang your bow up, it won't happen twice.

103 yards, that is a hell of a shot.  Glad to see you got the bull and I didn't read the post but it sounded like a quick recovery.  Pretty long, but you pulled it off clean.

He was out at 103 yards. I would have missed if he stood still. It would have flown over his back. I practice all the time. I shoot a 2009 Bowtech 82nd Airborne.  I have a spot hog 7 pin sight with my first pin to the 7th pin set at~~~ 30-40-50-60-a gap between 60-70, then 80-90-100. I have harvested 14 animals in my 9 years of bow hunting. I have had a few deer in the 30-40 yard range but most out in the 60-100 yard range. All it takes is practice. It may happen to any  bow hunter. You can make a bad shot, gut shot or somewhere else. I cant help the fact that the elk turned into my arrow.

Liked stated elsewhere.....you are either a liar or an unethical hunter. I don't care what brand/model gear you have, there is no reason to take 100 yards shots on unsuspecting game.

Sounds like someone desperate to fill their tag at any cost. Lucky or not it isn't anything I would promote by video on the web. I've done a lot of things in life that I wasn't proud of but I have always tried to take responsible shots that most anyone else would consider.

Self control is important for hunters and it sounds like it doesn't matter to some folks because "you shouldn't try this unless you are an expert" and I am an expert so therefore exempt from that rule. Self control doesn't become a part of the equation.

To me this situation sounds very similar to folks who insist that they should take 1000 yard shots on elk using a rifle and put it on the web. Some 14 year old kid will pick up on that, think it's cool or even worse -correct- and try it. You have to wonder how many animals have been wounded by people who make those sort of hunting decisions. Simply stalking closer or waiting for the more optimal encounter are always going to be better options, requiring superior skills and greater character by the hunter when it comes to archery and 103 yard encounters.

Take some thought about what you have done and consider taking up rifle or muzzleloader season if you need to shoot elk using a compound at 103 yards.
