Having the permit is a great piece of ID as the Law knows you have been checked out. It makes buying guns easier.

small note  Washington Mutual honors a CPL for check cashing, first merchant I've seen do that.

I don't know why you WOULDN'T have a cpl. As mentioned, it's good id. Even if you don't carry on a regular basis, there will be times you'll be glad you can.

In my opinion, the Kel-Tecs are the best value in concealable guns.

The longest I've been without some form of a gun is one month, that was when I moved here in June, had to wait till my Washington Permit came in...  Winter days, Carry a Kimber .45, cause it will stop what ever I need it too, and I shoot it it very well.....on the other days the Glock .40 works better for lighter clothing...  I am a firm believer, I will not pull it out ever unless I am going to squeeze three off.
Too many things get out of control from folks that believe showing it will make someone back off.  My experience it is the opposite, folks get very nervous quickly when a gun is brought into play, they do things that they would not normally do if there wasn't one.  It pushes someone to make a decision quickly, (it's like that fight or flight sense all animals, including humans have) so unless your meaning to kill them don't pull it out...  We as gun owners and especially as conceal owner owe this to society, if we wield it like the morons, crackheads, gang bangers were carring it for then we are no different in any manner..  Keep it holstered till you need it, then don't question why you pulled it, use it.... Never shoot to wound and always give yourself a alibi while shooting yell something like Stop! Stop! Stop!, Back-Off!, Put Down the Weapon!, etc..... while your shooting, the last thing a witness or anyone in court will remember in all the confusion, is you yelling STOP! to the individual coming towards and threatening the life of you or your family..... And for goodness sake always make certain you know what your doing, practice pulling from holster, shooting close quarters 3-7 meters, cause if your shooting past 15 meters, your life is probably NOT in danger and better have a valid reason why you had to shoot, or get to know PopeShawPaul real quickly....

Cohoho, very good advice.  I have had a CPL since that program started, but I seldom carry.  I would if I thought there was a reason.  Way back I would meet the town law officer on the street, give him $1.00 and a few days later he would bring me my permit, must have been the officers decision if you got one or not. After a few years you had to go to the county court house and get finger printed, now it's a big deal just to get it renewed and if your a day late it's like getting it for the first time.

When I carry, in summer it's usually AMT Backup in .380 - in a little Bianchi clip holster, I can even wear it jogging in just running shorts and a tank top.  Cold weather urban, depends on the mood; M1911 Colt .45, Beretta 92F 9mm.  Hiking, Ruger Security Six stainless with Pachmayr grips .357 Mag.  Except for one year in Wyoming, I've had a CPP my entire adult life.  My first one was issued by the police chief in my town in NH for $2.00; my last one, by the Chelan Co. sheriff for $85.00.  Either one's a bargain.

These handguns are all old enough to have good factory triggers!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Cohoho, I also appreciate your comments.  Very solid.  I agree that the gun doesn't get pulled out unless a lot of factors line up.  One that should really be considered is the shooter's proficiancy under stress.  Uninvolved people get hurt around incompetant shooter's.  Those who carry should practice under stress, handycapped in some way.  Different possitions, laying down, off hand, do 20 push ups first and give yourself 2 seconds to shoot 4 rounds...on target.  A 2' shot on a mugger is one thing but if you have to aim at all you'd better be the man in a public place.

Sisu mentioned the experiences in our youth's that affect our decision to carry.  My allowances for a civil community just recently maxed out and my wife was the most at risk.  I am currently pursuing a good carry auto, (maybe a Walther or a CZ) because I think close calls only mean there was a fluke.  We're blessed with no real harm done.

The world can be a tough place.  I've seen the twinkle in the eye.  If you intend to conquer a man he see's it in your eye's.  I've seen that as a competitor.  To bring it full circle, Cohoho spoke well,  If a guy feels like THIS IS IT he's gonna do something bold.  Controlling the pace as much as possible means the gun comes out at just the right time.

MAybe the concept is, it's always concealed.  The assailant never see's it coming.  Assasin-like.  Splitting the hairs of a moment to draw first and fast will end it before it starts.  Or, draw secretly for a no contest shot.  Any advise on a good handgun class and where?  There are lots to chose from.

Wow! A lot of great advise Cohoho. I think your comments put this in crystal clear focus for those considering carrying a concealed weapon. Thanks for sharing your remarks.

I have a neighbor that used to teach close quarters shooting for defense. If he is willing to do another class this spring maybe there are enough people in the Spokane and Stevens County area to get him interested in doing a class again. :dunno:

I carry a .45 glock 19. The reason why...

It is better to have a gun and never need one

than to need a gun and not have one.

I justify a lot of things that way, but very true in this case. I still wonder about parachutes on commercial jets.

Keep us posted Sisu.  Thanks for the hook.  Anyone ever pursue the PD or some agency for a class?  Some of the ranges offer classes but not specifically defensive?  I'd think a PD would be a good angle.  Spokane aint far though, maybe from the Oly Penninsula but if we can bring a guy out of retirement it's worth meeting on his turf.  My wife drives it in 3 hours and change.  I try to sleep since diapers aren't that comfy and I don't like sitting in my own crap! :o

I'd be interested, maybe my wife too.  I have a permit and a springfield 1911 combat, but rarely carry it.  So far, the only time I wished I had it with me was to dispatch injured animals on the road.
