Not happy with your spring bear permit? Read this.

I will admit that I was a little surprised with the extra two weeks, but figure that will make up for any days I miss while turkey hunting, makes it easier on me to decide what to do in the morning...

I mean, if it happens that they close my bear season for two days a week, I will go look for turkeys....
Spend the other days looking for a bear......
Should be O.K.....
I wonder if they will be feeding any ?

well if they get enough people complaining they will quit the spring hunt,and use hounds for culling the bears..I am grateful just to get access to the timber farms..The reason for the hotlines is because they get bombarded with stupid calls all day long by many who never even read their permits and access rules.Hancock has one gal there and she is a very nice lady..But her job is not to cater to applicants..On Hancock if you don't have a map showing damage areas there is usually one posted on the shack where you sign in each visit..Your gonna find many people up there flying around in their rigs,stopping at every clear cut and looking then speeding down the road to the next,its comical..Then after the first few days many will be complaining there are no bears in there,because they didn't see any...As the season latens the hunting gets better.Hancock permit holders have a good chance for a bear,but you better hunt for them...They wont be feeding during the hunt,if there are barrels out they will be empty,that would be illegal..If you know how to play a tamborine you can call in bear near those sites if you find them..LOL

I know, I guess I got a little caught up in the whole thing..
Now that I spent some time cooling off and thinking about it, I really am glad that I have a bear tag and season in addition to the fall hunt.
They put some restrictions on it, but it is still more than I had before...
As far as not having a map to tell me where the damage is occurring (Lincoln) 
If WH doesn't want me to know where they need help preventing damage, who am I to complain ?
I have a pretty good idea where I can find a bear or two, and I only want one, so...
I really just want info on the "rules" as to what days, and areas my permit allows me to legally harvest a bear.
I am calmer now and will be heading out in about half an hour to do some more scouting, and that will be therapy for my troubled soul....

you should see the damage..red trees,and look for trees 8 to 20 yrs old,,thats where they will girdle,but not till the sap is right in the area..I always get yancy before the season..hope you nail a nice one..

It is becoming more common for WDFW to ask the private property owners if they will allow a spring bear hunt just so WDFW can offer opportunities. It is not so mudch for damage anymore. We talked to a forester and a road engineer in the Copalis a couple of years ago and they stated outright that they didn't have a damage problem. It was only open because WDFW had ask them.

This is also why they are charging more in some areas now.

Why do they have to ask? There are summer/fall bear seasons in the entire state and I don't believe timber companies have to give their ok for those seasons, do they

If damage is not a problem, why do they use the hound hunters?
, I know they feed in Vail.
Also the hunt in Capital forest was requested by DNR to address damage issues.
It really does not matter to me, I just want to know open areas, and dates......

You have to realize that the area was not finalized by the time of printing.
