dog vomitting clear liquid??
« on: April 25, 2011, 08:22:09 AM »
i have a 1.5 year old weimaraner, and i've been noticing that once in a while, (once a week) i when i would come to his kennel to let him out or feed him,, i see clear/a little foamy liqid on the ground. not alo, maube  an area 0f 4-5 inches, i'm guessing its vomit, but not sure, since i haven't actually seen him throw up.  he still eats like a horse, his stool is nice and solid, (sometimes can kill you from the smell)  :chuckle:  and he's always full of energy.  i don't think its something i should be worried about,  but i dunno.  :dunno:

oh, and one more thing i noticed, it when i see the vomit/liquid in his kennel its usually a little after i see him chewing on grass in the yard  :dunno:
is it something i should be worried about?

oh, and he always has water, so he's not dehitrated either.

They will usually puke after eating grass, clear, yellowy, with green chunks.  Grass does not seem to set well.  If we see our golden eating grass, down goes the doggy door for an hour or two....  Not sure why she does it just every now and then she goes on a grass eating binge.

Dogs eat grass for various reasons, all of which I am not sure. However with my labs they will eat grass most often when they are stressed or have an upset stomach. So one thing to do may be see if there is something in his environment that is causing stress, and see if you can eliminate it. I have also seen my labs puke clear liquid after drinking too much water at once, maybe he needs the grass to help him get rid of some excess water in his stomach. I have never had any problems with my dogs as far as clear vomit. But it never hurts to make a trip to the vet and ask them about it, or maybe even call them and talk to them on the phone.

He may be simply slurping too much water too fast then yacking it back up ...I have had several dogs over the years that do this no idea why it isnt a problem just messy especially when they greet you this way  :o

For some reason my English Hound does the same thing.  Every once in a while he will go on a grass eating binge. He usually throws up within a few minutes.  I have had him throw up clear foamy liquid after drinking to much water.

Like said my guess is grass. They do it a lot in the spring and make them selves puke up some nasty foam.

My Yellow Lab is a grass eating machine. This time of year he also eats at least fifty Dandelions flowers a day. Some dogs just like salad with the meal.

I think it's a form of Doggy Spring Cleaning.  New grass seems to trigger a digestive cleanout.  My dogs did it, and all dog owners notice that it doesn't take much to trigger a gag-reflex in a pup.  They don't regard vomiting as being the miserable experience that we do.  I'll do just about anything to avoid  :puke: .
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

My vote is the drinking too much water too fast and the grass. I have read that dogs eat grass when they have an upset stomach. I have also seen my lab play really hard, gulp down water then puke it back up a few minutes later.

new grass is full of chloroform and sweet. You ever pick a piece this time of year and chew on it? Not because of upset stomach at all. They always seem to eat too much and puke a bit in spring. as long as he's happy, eating, drinking and pooping - don't worry.

Happy whatcha smokin, chlorophyl not chloroform, chloroform is what they used to use to knock ya out in the olden days to do some cutting on ya. :chuckle:

The thing to watch the Verminrunner for is Bloat or gastric torsion, thats pretty common in them.Big deep chests and a floppy stomach is a bad combo...........and it's genetic.

Happy was thinking of his date that night when he typed....
