That buck wasn't a Wind River, buck, but he was nearby.  ;)

As some guys have said, its for sure possible that mule deer and blacktails cross our 'human-imposed boundary' that splits our state in half.  The fact is, and we all know it, that the entire Cascade mountain range the hybrid zone, so to speak, and you'll find muleys, blackies, or benchlegs all over that area.

That bucks face screams Blacktail, antlers on the other hand???  How many of you guys ever watch the dvd blacktail fever?  It looks like a southern Oregon, northern California blacktail.  Had anybody post the pic of that huge pure blacktail killed in Tillamook Oregon yet?  Now that is a pure monster blacktail!!!
Post the site or pics if you have them.

This is just one more reason that out State Record Book is a pile of crap.  I wonder how many muleys that are registered as "cascade blacktails"?  We have seen several on this site alone throughout the past couple of years that have entered very questionable bucks into the book.  I can think of one "blacktail" in particular that had a big white rump, a short/stubby tail and huge ears.  I guess that it is an act of desperation to have the "biggest" blacktail in the book wether it is factual or not.   :dunno:  These are awesome bucks in their own right but why diminish their greatness by stretching the truth about their origin or species?

Yup. I know bucks that have been taken and lied about their location so they can make it in the book. Even road kill elk that were entered as an archery kill and ranks way up there. The book is full of a bunch of BS, which is too bad.

...And guys who pull down blacktail racks from the sixties out of an old mans barn rafters, and entering it as a buck shot by their 12 year old son. Pitiful. I just shake my head looking through that joke of a book. You can't trust most anything in there.

Ok folks, I am the guy that killed this thing lol. I was told by my dad that the deer had its own thread and was stirring quite a bit of controversy.. Honestly I believe it is a hybrid buck... I killed this deer just outside of Index with my .300 WSM at 350 yards on the second day of the season. He was grazing with two does on a ridge that had some open areas amongst the dense brush. I had been sitting on the opposite ridge for maybe five minutes when I spotted this buck. I thought it was a two point because I could only see the front fork on the right side..... (crazy right) He was standing behind a small fur tree and black berry bushes. I waited for the buck to step out from the black berry brush and took a shot.. I missed the first time and he didnt move a muscle. After the second shot he turned to run down hill and stumbled out of sight. It took me an 45 minutes to get to the damn thing fighting through brush and steep terrain. When I finally found him I realized that he was no two point!! Biggest deer I have ever killed and one helluva lucky shot. I would estimate he weighed around 280 lbs!! I myself weigh 270 and I couldnt drag him more than 5 yards by myself. So I called friends in to help me skin and quarter and we got him off the mountain. The horns and cape are with the taxidermist now. The taxidermist is an official SCI scorer, he called me today and let me know my buck scored 161. I plan to have it looked at by B&C and NW big game.. I hope it can make it in.. That would be awesome. Here are some more pics let me know what you think.

Great buck, to me clearly a hybrid at best. Look at the tail. Find me pure blacktail that scores high in the books with rather crabby fronts and great backs. It is rare at best for mature blacktails to have deep back forks with weaker fronts but that trait is common on mulies. Congrats on a dandy buck.

 Hell of buck Bigfoot!!!

Now that Mulie season is over you give us all something for motivation!!

Granted that HOG is not pure bred Blacktail! But hell I would much rather shoot a wayward Mule Deer (That big) over a Blacktail.
