For the price they are great!  They will work.......(i got one) but you might double your catch rate with a lami or loomis. :twocents:

Im pretty sure i was drooling the whole time i got to try out a lamiglass, I casted to the same spot i had been casting for the last hour and was really amazed at the diffrence i was feeling on the bottom!!

If you really think that an expensive rod is going to double your catch rate, nothing anybody says will ever change your mind.
Maybe I'm missing something and don't want to put words in his mouth, but fancy rods won't necessarily make you a better fisherman.  Most fish only hold in a small percentage of water and are only really targetable under certain conditions using certain methods.  You can go buy the absolute best equipment, but if you don't know the keys to fishing the river/lake/surf/fish/moon/gear/etc you will have roughly the same success as if you used the least expensive gear.  However, if you do know the 'secrets' any and all improvements in gear should up your odds for success.

Ugly Stik.  Only pole I'll ever own.  Can't beat the pole for the price

I don't know about doubling your catch, but you can't put a hook into something you can't feel biting.

That is exactly right.

Yes you can.  I do it all the time fishing for bass using plastics, you watch your line.  As well as bobber fishing for steelhead.

You can watch a bobber or the line with a broomstick or a stick.  It's the FEELING that is so much better.  Running a nice rod is amazing, especially in cover.  When you can easily tell rocks from wood from weeds, from fish tail slapping a lure to fish grabbing a lure, it's worth it.

Like i said in my first post you can feel the bottom and you can feel the fish, you can tell the diffrence between the too alot better!!!!!!!!  Sure with a bobber you can use whatever pole you got. I use my poles for more than one style of fishing, So on the bottom  you feel more you hook more!!!
But use what ever you want, that was just my  :twocents: More fish left for me! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Won't buy a Fetha Styx (or P-Line or Tica for that matter) because of HawgQuest.  Cant stand the constant pimping.

I don't understand this mentality.  To say that you won't use something because of the way it is advertised on one TV show that has nothing to do with the service provided by or the product produced by those companies.  Personally I didn't know HawgQuest endorsed those products, I can't stand watching the show.

I've known the guy that started the company since before fetha stix was a name you had ever heard of. He was always a stand up guy who liked to talk fishing with me.

I don't own any fetha stix but their rods do feel nice. I own about 4 loomis' and 5 lamis (I think) and to be honest they are all nice rods. I find myself using lami more but only because loomis dosent make a 12' 6-12 float rod. I also really like my 9'6" 4-8 lami espirit, but the sensitivity on my loomis imx's can't be touched. My all time fishiest rod is a 10+ year old allstar 10'6" 6-12, its probably caught more fish than all my others put together.

It aint the rod, its the fisherman, that said, you won't catch me using an ugly stik for anything other than sturgeon...

Well maybe you got the wrong company.......  I went to "Fetha Styx" show room there in Redmond about a month ago.  Great guys inside, very helpful for sure..  I got a smoking deal on a $280 dollar custom oversized rod for $80 bucks on a previously ordered model.....  Haven't used it yet, but have a matched Blue 6.4 Avet that is waiting for the first nibble of spring of OS....  Thinking about a re-visit and picking up a higher end salmon rod.  I got alot of variations of rods, some are more lucky than others, some are Ugly Sticks and have never had to worry about being outfished too often..  I personally like Ugly sticks for boat rods for everyones use- especially as down rigger rods, as they get abused and handle the different users.  On the flip side, I had numerous Lamiglass explode in AK on big kings.  Only have two left and would never spend money on another..  I used to fish with guys and their high end Sage rods for Reds and Silvers, uuugh somehow remember my old faithful Ugly Stick light out caught them 5 to 1.  Hmmmm...  Maybe if I had a $360 rod at the time, I would have gotten a fish on every cast...   :chuckle: Or they were really bad fishermen...    :dunno:  Seriously, nothing like a sensitive rod for sure for feeling every movement, it is truly night and day.  But you use what is the price range for you.  I only have Ugly Sticks (Tiger Light-Heavy) for Sturgeon on my boat and they seem to work for some reason or another.... And of course just bought Tiger Jigging rods recently for Halibut and other bottom fish, nothing like watching someone bounce a $200 rod up and down on the alum rails of a boat....  Ouch!!!!

I can see where they probably hired some extra folks to work the show...  We ran into a moron running a booth that both me and Tmike needed something from and they were the only one selling..  You got a point, there ought to be the right people for these events, as they get the most public viewing in such a short condense session..  First impressions are lasting...

I got turned off by the name "Fetha Stix" from the get go!, sounds like some pimp named the rod[/b]

Same here,I wouldn't own one based simply on the stupid name.

Those *censored*es on Hawgquest are strike two.

Loomis, Lamiglas, Fetha Styx, Dobyns, Sage etc......, all make quality rods.  It's forever arguable which one is the "best".  I use various brands for the application being used for.  Overall, Loomis rods are "my" favorite.  However, the Lami 7'6" Cert Pro magnum taper is hard to beat for a bank fishing rod on rivers for steelies using tackle/plugs......

I could not agree more.  Zebco 808 is all you need.  You can use for Carp shooting on your bow then your salmon/steelhead pole.
