Question: Barnes 7mm 110/120 gr TTSX Bullets

I am wondering if anyone has used the Barnes 110 or 120 gr TTSX or TSX and what the performance was like on game?

 That would be a smoking fast round out of a 7mm Mag, I doubt a stock barrel with factory twist rate would work well with that small a round. It took a lot of trial and error rounds just to get a 140 to work well, I use one in my 7mm Mag as well as my daughters 7mm-08.

I have looked at those but they seem too light. I use 150grs instead.

280 remington, should be able to load them somewhere 3100 - 3300 fps.

The structure of a TTSX is so good I am thinking that this should be a low recoil, pass through load, on deer/bear for small/young hunters out to 300 yards.

We have shot 2 moose and an elk with a 100 gr TTSX out of .25 caliber and they passed clear through all three animals, all 3 fell in seconds.

     Can't help with the 7mm, but the buck Kris got with you two years ago was hit with a 130gr. TSX out of a 270win.
150 yards.  Passed through his boiler room leaving complete devastation, then ruined his four wheel drive.
He crashed so hard it messed up the euro-mount.  (Nose all broken).  The elk she got last fall with the same load dropped after having one of those do a similar job. Bullet went through at a slight angle and skidded to a stop just inside the skin after breaking an off side rib.  It weighs 129.7 gr.  DRT.
I have worked up a load for her in the 110gr. TTSX that is scary accurate and a pleasure to shoot with very light recoil out of a near max charge weight.
My 270 loves the 130 TTSX, but haven't had the chance to op's check it yet.  I plan on calling you soon to talk about that.

 I would consider the 140gr. as well Dale, depending on the twist rate of that barrel it may be much easier to get a better group than trying to use the lighter bullets.

I like the idea of using light for caliber Barnes bullets. I think the extra velocity will help them to open up more reliably and they won't come apart so there's no reason to not use them, as long as they're accurate out of your rifle. Plus like you said, lower recoil than you'd have with the standard weight bullets, what's not to like?

It's got a 1 in 10 and I have already shot 140's and they do well. Trying now to come up with a low recoil load for little people.

For my wife's 270, the 110 TTSX was the least finicky bullet I have worked up.  Some of the lower charge weight loads would be something kids could practice with easily.

Excellent info, thanks, I was having a hard time deciding which weight to try, but might get the lighter bullet after hearing you got your 270 shooting it well, 280 is almost the same gun. I kind of think the Barnes would drop a bear or deer in that wieght bullet due to it's penetration capabilities.

I think the 120 gr Barnes would be fine in the .280 Rem.   My reloading manual doesn't list the TSX or TTSX but it has the older style bullet.  I would think that the length of the 120gr Barnes would be similar to a cup and core bullet of 140 gr variety.........so it should shoot fine out of the rifle.
