Ticks

Bucksandbulls you have ticks on the Kitsap Peninsula.  A coworker got Lyme disease from a tick in Mason county.  I am pretty sure that it is confirmed in Kitsap county.  Deffinatley more prevalent on the west side than it use to be.  I also know a guy who got it from a tick in the Quinault valley.

Got a tick on me while I was shed hunting in SE Washington on the 17th of March and started getting sick on the 20th. I spent 7 hrs in the ER on the 27th. My blood results in the ER showed that my white blood cell count was below 1000 and It's supposed to be between 5000 to 11000. I'm still suffering from headaches, light sensitivity and just feeling exhausted all the time.

My doctor told me that it sounded like reoccuring fever that is spread by ticks, but it could be a number of things that they carry. I've also went from 190 pounds to 170 in 9 days and I didn't have much room to lose any weight to begin with. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up and remind you to always check yourself for ticks when you're get back to camp or the truck. The funny thing was that we pulled 30 ticks off of my brother with one dug in and I had one on my hat and woke up with one dug in the back of my arm in the morning. Yet I'm the one who got the diseased tick?

Doesn't anyone use tick spray on their dogs and themselves? Reading these post I get the feeling people enjoy a tick hunt after they get home. Why gamble with the blood suckers? Prevent the ticks in the first place? Petco has dozens of tick products.

There is only one thing I am afraid of and it is ticks.  I damn-near can't stand going in the woods in the spring because of them.

Its called bad Karma.   I think I remember a post on here where you were making fun of someone warning you about ticks and you were finding the sheds and they weren't.    Something along those lines anyways    In all seriousness, I hope you get over your ails quickly.

Would the relatively mild winter be the cause for the early sightings?

That's funny. That was my older brother so I don't believe karma applies. He put me through hell when I was younger.

Odorless tick spray lasts up to 6 weeks. There is a video about hunting and outdoor use. This what the Vet recommended.

I didn't catch that was your brother JM.   

EARLY SIGHTINGS....  they never went away this year.  I found ticks in January and February while chasing pheasants for pics in the Wenas.  "Usually" you can expect to have some peace from them.

God damn I hate ticks too. Had one on my head for like three days after a fishing trip to Rocky Ford creek a few years back. Found it when I was running my hand through my hair... freaked me out. But I haven't got one in Washington since then, and that was a long time ago...
