Bullet in wall

Definitely think it's a flat base rifle bullet, tip is buried. Rifling marks are between cannelure and base.

It looks like the width of the hole in the wall pretty closely matches the diameter of the bullet.  It would at least get you in the right ballpark (.223, .308, .45) and offer some scale.

Pretty small bullet - compared to the staples holding that little star to the wall.

Doesn't appear to have any expansion, fragmenting, mushrooming, so I am guessing that it was falling from the sky below expansion velocity.  Pretty crazy, thank you for the back story.

Assuming a staple width of 1/2" looks like the bullet is probably a .224 caliber.  I think Skillet may be right on with his post above.

I'm thinking rifle based on an assumption. To me it looks like a boat tail bulet that traveled in a tight and down direction in the pic and lodged into the wall. I don't know of any boat tail pistol bullets. 
It could very well be the opposite and that is the front of a bullet?
On second look it seems like a fmj with lead in the base? In that case I'm guessing either .223 caliber or .308

Definitely need more info tho.

Yes sir I think boa ttail is correct. The grooves would wouldnt just end it would be all the entire length of the bullet!

Based on the scale posted, I'm thinking  .223 bullet from a 1-10" twist rifle. The twist rate isn't very fast. The bore also appears to be a low groove count, but with the view it could be anywhere from 3 to 5 groove.
