Starting to get a little bummed - no hunting this year
« on: July 26, 2016, 12:20:31 PM »
The hip surgery is scheduled for August 29th. My hunting partner who had the stroke, his wife just had a stroke and his heart hasn't been doing very well. What a mess for those poor guys. And, our business is too busy for me to take late season off (plus I've used up all my vacation for medical issues this year). I'm going to have to live vicariously through all of your stories. This is the first time in almost 50 years I won't be hunting big game and the first time in over 25 years I won't be bow hunting. Wah, wah, wah. Pianoman's whining! Maybe I can come visit someone's camp nearby during early archery. Anyone gonna be hunting near the Couve? Or maybe go coyote shooting in someone's field??? I really gotta kill something or see something dead or eat something wild, afterall!

That's a real shame. I hope some opportunities come your way.

Can you delay your surgery a month so you could hunt the early bow season out of a stand or blind.

Nope. October begins the busy season and then I'm booked through New Year.

That sucks maybe get a muzzleloader or rifle tag and try and hunt a day or two out of a stand or blind. Hope you have a fast recovery.

Sorry to hear that, Piano!  Best of luck with the surgery.  Maybe you can take up one of the offers for a more "front country" hunt!

As for living vicariously, I think the Hunt-WA crew can contribute a few good hunt write-ups with pictures to make you feel like you are out in the field!  (I hope to write at least one good one!)

Get a St. Helens access permit, and predator hunt beginning in January. Plenty of coyotes and bobcats out there, and with all the roads you won't need to walk far.

It's actually tan and I always need to shoot that. It's awesome! I just found some cheap ammo for it, too.

If you find yourself in need of any wild game meat, do not hesitate to ask my friend!  It is a standing offer.  I even deliver......just not during the months of sept, oct, nov, or or the first 15 days of dec :chuckle:

Hopefully you get out there next year. I know all too well what it's like. Due to Army life I went 4 years without hunting. I, sort of, finally got to go last year with no scouting time. This is the first year of real hunting in 5 years... can't wait!

First of all, Taco, welcome home and I'm so glad you're back in one piece. Secondly, when I recover from this thing, I'm going to be the 59 year-old wrecking ball for next season. I will make up for missing a big game season by crushing it completely. Thanks.

I will be setting up camp near Kalama (unless plans change). You are more than welcome to stop by. Just message me as the time gets closer. Hope your surgery goes well!

Thanks.

Thanks for the well wishes. That might be nice. Will I need a WEYCO pass?

Think of it this way Pianoman....all that money you save on tags, gas, ammo, food, arrows, etc, can be put toward a new bow or GUN! ;) Ya see...the glass is half full.

That sounds like more than a weekend trip. Sure would be fun. Never done a lion hunt.

Maneel your pain P Man. Over the last three and a half years I'ved both my knees replaced, gallbladder removed, cataract surgery in both eyes (never mind the 3 back surgeries, they were over 10 years ago). This year I bought the Vail Pass and planned on spending some time up in the woods picking mushrooms, scouting, hunting... I also helped a terminally ill friend of mine get set up for a any elk tag up over 410. I was excited to be able to go along on his hunt. And then I had a detached retina 6 weeks ago. No going above 1000 feet elevation, as I had a gas bubble in my eye. After the treatment, everything was good. Then last Thursday, a second and much worse detachment. Emergency surgery, laser treatment, much bigger gas bubble, and keep my face parallel to the ground 24/7 for 8 days. Also, and this is the bad part, no going above 1000 feet elevation for 2 1/2 to 3 months. Going to miss out on my friends hunt, which I was really looking forward to. Hopefully everything heals as it should. I'll at least get to go elk hunting and do late buck..
Sorry, little long winded...
Oh yeah, I'm also 59. Must be out of warranty...

Damn, that all just sucks. I think you're right about the warranty for both of us.
