I will say there is a little more urgency to my morning bicycle rides.  Gonna have to be in shape to keep up with this kid.

I see an occasional deer out there that blows my mind..." where the ...... did that come from."    Might be one of the better hunts this fall in regards to deer.

Getting closer..  I've put nearly 1,000 miles on my bicycle since April 1st.  Lost 46 lbs.  Can't wait to enjoy tagging along with my son.  Let's roll! (no pun intended)

Picked up a few sheds there when I was in college. Huge country from the top down to the river.  I drew that tag once but wasn't able to hunt it because of another draw.

there are some real dandys in there, and the nice thing about that unit is you don't need a bunch of snow to get on a good buck they all live there year round. that can take some pressure off

Glass, glass, glass. The big deep canyons hold some nice deer. One in particular in the burn area.
Best of luck!

I saw a good one last night. I didn’t get him on film.  He was trailing hard.  Archery wouldn’t have worked, 30-06 would have made great work.

Hunted all day today....saw about a dozen deer, two of which were smallish bucks.  Also ran into some sheep down near the river which was fun to see.

Good luck! If I had the tag I would definitely concentrate my efforts along Beacon Ridge Rd from park creek down to the observatory in the wind farm. Always see multiple nice bucks in that area chasing does during rifle elk season. Saw several nice ones this year and heard of a giant in that area.

Kind of bittersweet when you finally pull the trigger and the hunt is over.  All of the anticipation over the summer leading up to the hunt comes to an abrupt end.  I think we both expected to see more deer..  It wasn't really about that for me though.  Just hunting with my son in the snow that time of year was awesome!  A great experience and I look forward to the next.

We saw a few smallish bucks each day and he killed the biggest one we saw on day eight.

Did I mention the roads are gnarly in there?!  They kinda smooth out with a layer of snow, but then present some sketchy travel on the hills :yike:

We really hadn't seen anything that got our attention until we spotted this guy on day eight.  Considering what we had seen and after a little back and forth he decided to take this deer.  Wasn't quite that easy though as the deer had gone over the ridge and out of site while we were looking him over.  We hustled over to where he had dropped out of site only to jump a small four point.  Not that deer!

Couple moments later the one we were after appeared and that was that..

As he lays
