I archery hunt so carrying a sidearm isn't an option.  Guess that makes me more manly and less afraid of 4 legged creatures .  :P haha

A modern handgun can be carried while archery or muzzleloader hunting, but only for personal protection.

(a) It is unlawful for any person to carry or have in his possession any firearm while archery hunting in the field during an archery season specified for that area, except for modern handguns carried for personal protection. Modern handguns cannot be used to hunt big game or dispatch wounded big game during an archery big game hunting season

Who doesn't? My main concern is 2 legged than 4 legged creatures.

I love this thread!  Sometime I carry a .22 for small game, sometimes the nine and sometimes a .45. I don't want any of my pistols to feel unloved😘🔫.

I carry a pistol so I can fight my way back to my rifle that I shouldn't have set down in the first place LOL!
If hunting was easy, they'd call it killing....

Glock 43 9mm with extra magazine, every time I hunt or work out in the woods. Not really for the toothy critters, but for the nut-case two-leggeds...

I carry my .380

Reasons in this order:
1) signal for help if needed
2) if lost, use to help survive (feel better sleeping out there)
3) protection from 2 and 4 legged critters.

I don’t. Too heavy.

Always.
For all the reasons mentioned and one other.

Back in my 20s I took a nasty fall off a rock ledge while deer hunting.
When you fall like that, your rifle is gone. A side arm has a good chance to stay with you and can be used for all the reason mentioned.

My carry the past two years is two Bond Hand Cannons in a twin shoulder rig. Very comfortable.
Or a  LCP in my pocket.

I have enough trouble getting myself up the hills. I only carry what's absolutely essential. If I'm just out scouting and not carrying a rifle, I'll sometimes carry my .22 pistol. Or maybe the Glock if people might be a concern.
