Anyone heard anything about the Nooksac unit for elk ? Any info on how the hunting has been the last few years ? Thinking about putting in for it this year.

Hahaha. Well, 10 points gets you about a 2% chance of drawing for archery and 1.5% for muzzy and rifle. 20 points gets you 8%, 5% and 6% draw odds. You could put in until you die and probably won’t draw since point creep is lowering the odds yearly also.

Might want to look at a unit you could actually draw?

Nooksack has been getting worse every year for the last 15 or so.

No such thing as really point creep in this state as the people with “max points” don’t get a percentage of the tags. Really you have a chance with 1 point. True though easier units to draw

Point creep has nothing to do with what you are talking about. Point creep is when more people apply each year for the tag you are seeking and odds for the same number of points goes down each year. This effectively makes your points less valuable compared to the prior draws for people with the same total. The point is, if you are at say 10 now, by the time you get to 20 points instead of the odds being 8% for archery like they are now, they could very easily be 4%. This is the case in nearly every Western state with a point system in the popular trophy units. The only way you don’t have point creep is when the number of people applying either decreases or stays the same (either that or they increase the number of tags of course).

I know  a guy who has drawn the tag twice and killed big bulls each time. I live nearby and never put in  for it.

I was under the impression point creep was when you were usually guaranteed a tag with a certain amount of points. Let’s say 3 for a general elk tag in Wyoming. Then the next year it takes 4 points. That’s point creep.

I think of point creep as existing in both cases:   States where the known number of points to draw increases, AND states like ours where you could legitimately draw the most coveted tag with no points......   But your odds of drawing keep going down each year even as you're building points.  Average points to draw good tags in this state is going up (can't really say creeping because it's going up too fast....   :-(    ).

Basically anything that devalues your points every year could be considered point creep I guess.

Our point system is all about luck, look at the broken down numbers on specific permits, it will show you who actually draws permits for each special hunt.  Most top point holders don’t draw, I haven’t looked at the nooksack but have others.  It’s all luck so just pic a tag that allows you to hunt the area you want to when you don’t draw, that’s what I’m doing from now on, screw waiting my entire life for a oil tag. The nook has huge bulls for what it’s worth, good luck.
