Haven't seen him on here in awhile but U C Warden. Never met him but I read his book and his threads when he was on here. Seemed like a nice guy.

I’ve had positive and negative experiences both. When I think back about it a lot of it depended on the way that they approached me but also the state of mind that I was in at the time. They are humans but so are we I guess you can have a lot of different outcomes.

Most all have been positive, one just left me scratching my head. One of the funniest was about 30 years ago. Three of were deer hunting near Republic and not seeing anything. Since it was the last day for lake fishing we headed to the lake. We were doing well and tossing them in a black bag, along came a warden and asked how we were doing we said one more to finish our limit. He just smiled and said one fish and three rods (whoops got us) poked his head in the bag of fish and said nice haul. He turned to us and said it's the last day, take what you want and walked off saying have a good day.

Couldn't agree more. He's a stand up guy

I met one out in Quincy last year, didn't catch his name but he was incredibly friendly and gave some good fishing points on some of the lakes I don't know well in that area.

This may be a surprise but game wardens are people. In probably 95% of the hunter/angler contacts I make I start the conversation along the lines of "how's it going" "doing any good?" "got anything?"

The vast majority of the hunters/anglers respond in a positive/friendly manner, but I will admit probably 15% of the time I will get a negative response. "What the F are you talking to me for? "I'd do better if you weren't checking me" "I F'ing hate game wardens" are the typical responses from those negative responses. Now these aren't from people I got a call about, these are simply me stumbling into them and checking them. So after receiving that response do you think the conversation/contact is going to go smoothly? Probably not. Do you think you might get some attitude from the game warden? Imagine sitting down at a bar and trying to make conversation with the guy sitting next to you and he responds with "what the F are you talking to me for" heck for some people that's fighting words.

I've had people I've arrested thank me and shake my hand after booking them into jail. And I've had people complain about me to management for ruining their fishing/hunting trip simply because I took 5 minutes to contact and check them and no warnings/citation were written.

In most cases it simply comes down to...do unto others as you want done to you

agreed both solid dudes. To bad there not around anymore. There replacements are definitely sub par! It was kind of funny with the teanaway having a confirmed pack. Rogers retires and the bring in a wolf loving game warden. Seriously blows my mind.

In the Skagit area I’ve had good experiences. In Winthrop me or a member of my group call the local over there every deer season for a question, report something or to get clarification. All have been very helpful.

I’ll second Bruce Richards . True warden with ton of knowledge and passion for wildlife. I’ve been around a lot of wardens in the last 25 years on depredation stuff and studies. The trend I see now especially with the newer younger version of the game wardens in my area anyway is they are just cops. Be happy writing parking tickets and some I’m sure do not know the difference between an elk and a deer.  They lack the wildlife and woods skills and knowledge of the wardens of the past. Just a different era and they are trained differently now. I will say Ryan John is a great one that reminds me of the old school game wardens that is there to enforce but also teach and help people.

I would like to meet you sometime. All the wardens I've met have been decent people. Like you say; "they're people".
I don't understand why some people have to have an attitude right off the bat. Thank you for your service .

The few encounters I’ve had were good same goes for any law enforcement, I always try to be respectful and they have all Been the same in return.

I wrote down the names of the WDFW enforcement officers I've met over the years and came up with 11. All of them are people I wouldn't mind being checked by. I've even hunted with a couple.

Met a young warden while in Broadus this year. He helped my son and me find some block management ranches. Couldn't help but notice his last name, one I wouldn't like growing up with, worse than Sue!!! K. Queer!! I didn't say a word! Fun guy though.
