Successful colockum spike hunt
« on: November 06, 2021, 10:24:27 AM »
Got my first elk and was lucky enough to get a true spike in the colockum.  Came upon this guy at about 20 yards in thick fog walking through some pretty thick brush. Hunting alone so the pack out was brutal. Took about 14 hours.  Freezer will be nice and full now!

Nice! They do exist!

I saw about 5 hanging in camps WHOLE! I must be doing it wrong because I saw no spikes and hunted no places you could get to one with a vehicle! Maybe the are baiting them right to the meat pole lol!

Congrats! My dad and I doubled up on true spikes opening day. 2 separate herds and kills we’re about 1.5-2hrs apart. I killed mine 8am opening morning and sent my dad back to camp to get his pickup and instructed him to meet me on a lower road, well about halfway into my pack out I hear the shot and over the radio I hear him say he got his bull. He was 200yds from camp hiking back to get his truck it turned out to be a busy day! Also I’ve punched my tag 4 of 5yrs in the true spike unit we hunt. Glad to see a ton of branched bulls in the herds I saw this year much better than years past that’s for sure!
