Also illegal to shoot them with a pellet gun........
That is correct.  An air rifle is not considered a firearm in Washington.

Ok you guys both have me curious now, where do you read that? All I see is:

Forest Grouse

Forest grouse may not be killed with any rifle or handgun 24 caliber or larger, or shotgun containing slugs or buckshot, during modern firearm deer or elk seasons unless appropriate deer or elk tags are in the hunter's possession.

Forest grouse may be taken with shotguns as well as firearms smaller than 24 caliber during the entire grouse hunting season.

That is straight from the upland bird book. IMO the books are ridiculously over-complicated...
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

So if I'm reading this correctly you would be in violation to carry a 22 for the purpose of shooting grouse but you could carry a .38 special with wadcutters (4 inch or greater barrel) for protection and shoot incidental grouse along the way but only if you have a big game tag during the big game season? It says nothing about using either bird points or slingshots... or pellet guns that I can find.

I know a guy that limited on grouse a few years back by using a slingshot.  He shot them a day before the high buck hunt started up in the wilderness area.  It was a pretty good way to get some meat for dinner that night.

I also wish pellet guns were legal to kill grouse with, that would be pretty cool to shoot them with the pellet gun.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Did this guy go by the name "Curly" by any chance?   :chuckle:

I'm not saying for sure one way or the other on a public forum....... ;)  I will say that those grouse tasted pretty good........even though they could have used more salt. 8)

Sorry if this is just the same situation, and I'm not seeing it, but how would the legality here work..

I have my archery tags, plan on going out for deer/elk, my brothers coming with but only has the bear tag. He'd like to carry a shotgun/-06 incase he sees something while with me. Would this be legal? Or would the firearm need to be left at camp/truck while I was out with the bow?

Would it be too much of a stretch to consider the 30-06 as a defensive weapon?  :chuckle:

Theres plenty of room for all of gods animals.... right next to the mashed potatoes!

It's legal. Your brother has the gun, not you. I really don't see what a game warden could say. You're both hunting legally, you just happen to be together.

22 pistol with a CWP would fit the bill  :twocents:
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

For the TS and Blackridge,I have to ask, what good does it do to bow hunt if you are going to start shooting guns off? Doesn't this kinda defeat everything you do preparing for archery?

What happens after the guns start going off? The animals become more wary.
Then you have lost your edge.

But I was going to say the same as cylvertip.
22 and a CCP,and a stray grouse was attacking you.

I always bring my falcon when I go bowhunting...Convenient, silent but will pluck out your eyeball if you're not careful.

Just use the blunt on an old arrow.  I always carry a grouse arrow (I use Judo Points rather than blunts) that has different fletching than the arrows with broadheads so that I won't accidentally pull it out and shoot at a deer/elk with it.  It's also usually an old one that I don't mind (as much) breaking.  That being said (knock on wood), I shot my grouse arrow at lots of clumps of grass and other stuff this year and didn't break it. It's great for practicing in the middle of the day.  Z7 set at 65#.
