BBD Big Bear Down

Well I finally scored today, pretty tired after the 12 miles and endless sun beating down on me, so Ill fill you all in, tommorrow with a great story and pictures. Just a little teaser, Hogsniper and I seen a total of 10 bears on Friday, and I got some incredible footage of a very unafraid and dangerous bear this morning, I get a link up once I get it loaded to youtube. To bed for now, and a story tommorrow.

Where abouts did you find the bulk of the animals? Anywhere we discussed? 12 miles of hiking should have put you past the slide we fixed and into a pretty decent area.....but then again there's a lot of land and a lot of bears up there. We're going to start planting above cavanah creek and by the sisters in the next 2 weeks so I'll let you know if you there's a bigger one left for next fall

Well since I started this thread, I suppose I better not leave you guys hanging. I started out by getting the clearance from the wife to hunt all weekend Friday-Sunday. This would be last weekend to get out and harvest my spring bear. 4:00 oclock rolled around pretty early on friday and out the door I went, picked up hogsniper and we were on our way. Went up to a spot I had seen a bear last thursday and drove the road in. That morning we seen 2 different bears in the road foraging on fresh spring grass but they were gone before I could get a clear shot, then the heat set in, went back to the house reorganized some gear and headed back up at 4:30pm. That evening we seen a total of eight bears in the road, the same road we had driven in the morning, bad Idea to drive it again it is very diffcult to get anything but a Texas heart shot when road hunting bear, so Friday ended up being a bust. We did see to bruiser bears, both that I can say confidently were over 300lb and one had a huge blonde patch on his chest. We also video a sow and two yearlings that evening, I did the ethical thing and didnt take her, llI post a video clip of her later. Fridays tally 10 bear, not a bad day for the 80 degree weather. Saturday morning I picked up my hunting partner Jeremy and hit the gate, we walked this time hoping to find a few of the bears we had seen the night before, at the 1.5 mile mark while glassing I caught some movement in the timber, we got down in the road had the camera rolling and out walked about a 200lb boar. I decided to pass on him after all the bear I had seen the night before. We videod him for about 5 minutes then started making some squeking noises and here he came, 25 yards later and he was getting to close I stood up and started talking to him, with him not being afraid he did a little false charge thing and then walked over to a tree and jumped up it about 6 feet or so hanging on looking at us drooling, finally chased him off and back to the brush he went. We packed up looked over in the brush and there he was just staring at us sitting on his ass, we got out of there before, I had to shot him in self defense. Six miles up the grade and six back, and only one bear sighting, a little dissapointed especially with the sore foot now. We were back at the truck by 12:00 and it was hot. My partner had to be back, after dropping him off a buddy called and asked if I wanted to hop in and go look for some sheds and bear up a couple other roads, I met up with him at 1:00 and hit the Cadilac road, up Baker Lake highway. We werent up there 3 miles and there goes a bear walking around the bend in the road. I hoped out loaded the gun and ran up the road and peeked around the corner there he was feeding on fresh grass at 1:30 in the afternoon with temperatures pushing 90. He looked big, I got a solid rest and squeezed one off, click. Damit I didnt put one in the chamber, bolt comes open and the cartridge wont push out of the clip, talk about frustarting finally I dig one out, chamber it hold tight on the base of the neck and squeeze, BOOM and he folds. BBD I run up to him find he is only paralized and put him out of his misery. So after hiking 12 miles in the morning and not firing a round, to driving around in mid afternoon it just doesnt seem right to shot one from the pickup and drop it in the road, but thats how it happened. These Berger VLD bullets sure do some damage the exit side of his neck was absolute burger. This evening Ill post up some video of the sow with cubs and the problem boar, and a short clip of my bear after it was shot. Oh ya I actually brought the bear out whole and weighed him guts and all, any guess on the weight? Ill post tonight what he actually weighed. The guys taking the pictures, dont have much experience so they arent the greatest, sorry.

Nice bear and the pictures are great. Congratulations! It's probably a good thing you got it from the road with it being as hot as it was yesterday.
