ATVs have nothing to do with this story. It's the guys who stole the deer and that's it.

Sure it does, and the reason I asked if they were legal to be in there with ATV's, is that I don't see how he could turn those guys into law enforcement for "stealing" his deer. Where's the proof? It's his word against theirs. I don't think a game warden would be able to do anything, even if he had got license plate numbers and called it in. However, he could have turned them in for being behind a locked gate on ATV's. Very few areas here on the westside is it legal to go around gates on ATV's.

Same ol' story again..................blah, blah, blah !  It's not the game wardens problem for the ATVers being behind locked gates. It's the landowners problem, it's called, TRESPASSING.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Well then, if WDFW enforcement doesn't want to do anything about it, call the sheriff. Or, call the landowner. If it was on state land, call DNR enforcement. I don't care what the violation is called. It's illegal and I would have done my best to get them busted for it.

You're telling me that if someone stole a deer from you, you wouldn't turn them in for being in a no-motorized area with their ATV's?

Where does it say that they rode there quad's behind the gate? :dunno: All he said was they pulled in behind him and then followed him for the 3 mile hike. He didn't even know that they were on the hill behind him. If they were on there quads wouldn't he have heard where they were at?

You shot and they shot, maybe they are somewhere talking about a guy who tried to steal thier deer? Could it have been an honnest mistake? Sounds like they were jerks for hunting right by you tho. I think you did right, I would never die or kill over a deer. As for vandalizing the cars, you would be letting the creeps turn you into a creep. I would not do that either.
Carl

I truly do not think this was an honest mistake. The guy was above me only about 50 yards, there is NO WAY he didn't hear the shot or my yell of excitement. It was my first deer and couldn't contain my excitement. No I believe these guys went in the woods with the intention of following me and taking any deer I shot at or may have shot at. The guy admitted to me that they followed me because I had scouted the area and probably knew where the deer were. He did this when he was still being nice til his buddies showed up. Then he knew he out numbered me. No these guys are criminals and went in with the intention of committing a crime and they did.

The guy that eventually put his tag on MY deer did not have an ATV it was his buddies that showed up later that had the quads. I don't know if they were allowed to have the quads or not there were no signs posted and I do not ride so I wouldn't know. Them having quads didn't bother me at all it was them stealing my hard work that is the issue. I only talked about the quads in the original story as a way to fully describe what had happened.

Actually, no. I think it's pretty chicken sh!t myself. That was not the problem. It was the stealing of this guys deer, period.  I would think more like a guy, than a whiner about ATVs. Like, if I see this guy alone, I'd beat the crap out of him. I think more old school than most guys because that's how I was raised. I'm not for turning people in for something as assnine as riding an ATV behind a closed gate. So what. It happens everday and nothing is ever done about it. It's a waste of OUR taxpayers money to tie up a cops time with something so minor. The cops have better things to do, like maybe, catch a murderer camping out at your campground or a truck prowler at trailheads. Little pukes tearing down forest service signs, pulling out cattle guards in the middle of the forest, grow operations, meth labs, wood poachers. Besides, the people that bitch about the ATVers most likely weren't even there. If you were there, then do what ya gotta do. We have too many goodie two shoes in this world that butt into other peoples business. Give it a rest for once. I'm sure all of you guys a really good people, but geeze, enough on the ATV stuff. Direct you anger where it will help instead of whinning about something so stupid.

Welcome to the world of public land hunting, I hate people sometimes. Sorry for your loss.. But first thoughts are everything happens for a reason, "it's a test", don't let it discourage you the rest of the season, prime time is just starting to heat up. You will get a bigger buck if you shake your unfortunate experience now and get back out there in good spirits (just try your best to avoid other people). The deer thieves will get what's coming to them and who knows maybe that spike had something wrong with it and they will become deathly ill. It's all about Karma especially in the Blacktail Woods.. Go get another

Campmeat I'm with you. I reported a blatant road violation (didn't even stay on tje road) nothing happened. Waste of my time. For now on they get mountain tuneups. IMHO its not vandalism if they're trespassing.   :chuckle:

I am sorry but this was the whiniest post I have seen in quite some time. I absolutely would of reported a violation. Someone driving their ATV on a wet day in a restricted to ATV area and then stealing someone's kill? Yes, these people deserve to have the knock on their record. Maybe if someone had "called it in" years ago (these people sound like repeat offenders) then these guys wouldn't of done this. What happens when they keep getting away with illegal acts? Do you think they will just stop or simply drive ATV's off road or is it possible they might continue to escalate their actions?

I would love to have an ATV and hope to buy one this winter. I have alot of respect for many people who us ATVs but I have a cabin just outside of a wilderness area in Washington and I can't tell you how many people in ATV's end up carving out paths and ruining the wilderness experience for many people when directly across the road is the little naches GMU where they can use their ATVS.

I love the idea of you shooting a deer it goes down.  Then you hear others coming hard to the deer that you shot.  Then you start shooting the down deer one shot after the other until your gun is empty.  Then possibly reload and do it again.  Then wait for all them to get to the deer.  Yell out congrats on your deer your filthy animal.

Now picture all those shots with a 250 grain 338 bullet.  If they get 25 lbs of meat off the deer they would be lucky.
