I am new to the site and am not quite sure if I am posting this correctly, so if I am doing this wrong I apologize.
I shot this late season muzzy deer on December 1. It took some serious time and effort during the late season to final get a buck. The weather conditions were not the greatest (fog), but when it finally lifted on Sunday I was able to finally spot one!
I put on a 500 yard stock on this buck, but when I got to where I thought I would have a 100 yard shot, but it turned out the buck was still 250 yards away. I regrouped and decided to back out a ways and make a big circle so I could get the wind in my favor. After about an hour of stalking and the last 100 yards crouched low, I was in position, 100 yards! The only problem I had was that the buck was bedded and all I could see was his rack. I decided to be patient and wait him out. 5 minutes later the doe he was with stood (spooked by my buddy that was about 500 yards away). She decided she did not like his presence and took off running, directly at me! Slowly after the buck stood and started off behind her. The doe got 15 yards away from me and finally saw me and turned a bit and ran away from me. I knew the buck would follow so I sat down took a deep breath and waited for the buck to come over the little hill I was on. He came through at a full sprint, at 30 yards, I held in front of him and pulled the trigger…WHACK and then the buck did a cartwheel! He was down; shot him right through the neck! He is definitely not the biggest buck I have seen this year, but it was by far one of the more exciting hunts I have ever been on!
