best blacktail!
« on: October 30, 2015, 04:23:10 PM »
Woke up Monday morning and decided instead of heading to another day of senior year I wanted to kill a big buck. So I called my  best friend and told him ill be there in 10. After a quick doughnut and some mtn dew we were on our way. 100 yards after the first gate a spike runs across the road and ibthamkfully convinced levi to hold off. Fast forward about 20 minutes. Park at a closed gate and start walking. Get about half mile in and split up. Levi takes the higher road and I decided to cut threw the middle of the clear cut. 5 minutes later I spot a doe. Throw the binos up and before you know it I spot 3 more does a spike and this big guy. Same time I spot him he sees me and stsrts walking away. Decide he looked big enough and took the shot. 7mm wsm threw a lung and straight into the heart at about 200-220 and he some how had enough time to get back on a doe before tipping over. Man was I excited. But had no clue he was this big! Levi comes running down the clearcut yelling is he down is he down. I think by the smile and uncontrollable shaking he already knew. so we started the hike down and found him. What I thoight was a nice forken horn turned out to be a bruiser 3 point. Man were we excited.  Tagged out by 845. Finally get him in the jeep after a few quick pictures and a long drag out. Hes a old fighter with both ears ripped and a broken nose. Biggest buck to be brought into Matt's meats in Rosevalley except a mule deer from Colorado. Finally get him in the jeep. (Project of its own) and we are off. But not before levi misses his chance at a forken horn. After stopping by the high school and my girlfriends house to show her dad we came home to my mom dad and grandpa along with another hunting buddy to help skin. It was a good morning!

Let me see, social studies or hunting blacktail in the rut. Pretty tough to argue you made the wrong choice. Nice job on a sweet buck.
