Depends how much I plan to be moving. I like a thin to medium-weight layer of anything not cotton under Gore-tex, followed by polyester fleece camo on top of the Gore-tex. If I move slowly, I stay relatively dry and warm on the inside. The outer fleece camo layer is quiet and does become saturated but doesn't absorb as much water as wool, so it's not as heavy.

Wool is quiet and stays comfortable through a broad temperature range. It is warm even when soaked (because it maintains some trapped air in its structure), but when soaked it is definitely heavy. I use wool primarily for hats and socks, occasionally gloves. I love a wool shirt on a dry, cold, windy day because it does a better job of cutting wind than most fleece products. I only wear cotton on hot summer days.

Generally any kind of rain pants are too heavy, noisy and restrictive for me. For pants I wear a wind-stopper pile and expect them to get wet. By the end of October, I like wearing Sorel boots in all kinds of conditions, from sitting in tree stands to creeping in the rain. Their soles are soft and relatively quiet, and the lower half of these boots are rubber. I never get wet feet, but they're not as warm as you'd think.

Filson tin clothing is awesome in wet weather.

Thanks for making me want some even more.

I've got the Cabela's Dry Plus and it's quiet when it's wet but a little noisier when it's dry.

Cabelas Gore-Tex MT050 works well for me. It's quiet and keeps me as dry or dryer than anything else I've ever used.
I bought a bunch of that stuff and took every bit of it back.  The only way that it could be quiet out in the woods is if you were standing dead still.  Just taking it out of the packaging sounded like I was opening a bag of tater chips.    :chuckle:

I don't worry about noise in the rain. The rain makes noise when it hits ththe ground, trees, etc. I just wear my gore tex suit and stay warm and dry. I see lots of critters in the rain

Same here. I like it. It's pretty light weight too.

so I have stopped fighting the quiet raingear quest. I simply put light rain gear UNDER my quiet cloths.. sure I have more to dry at end of day, but I stay very dry and comfortable. If you cant, I would walk around cabelas, they do have some good stuff. biggest complaint is wicking at cuffs...

I've got several different types for different uses, all have pros and cons.  Waterproof and quiet is a tall order.  I like a wool or fleece mid layer depending on temp with a shell over top.  The mid layer makes a big difference in my opinion in creating a gap that some airflow/steam can travel through.  I sweat a lot and ventilation is big for me.

Heading hunting right now into this storm wearing my Gunden's pvc jacket and waterproof Natgear pants.  They are noisy as hell but in 40+ mph winds and sideways rain, it does not matter much.  At least I will stay dry, except for my face.  :chuckle:

I am following this thread as its my 1st season here the weather is a lot different then sitting in the snow all day. I have early season gear and need something warm for late season and waterproof or whatever term means I'm not going to get very wet. are any of these suggestions both warm and waterproof?

Been hunting 26 years and I am always trying to find some miracle hunting garment. That keeps you bone dry, breaths excellent and is super quiet.  There is no such thing.  I end up going back to wool every time.  Its the quietest fabric out there, won't fail when you need it most and is very comfortable.  One thing it is not though is waterproof.  I am ok being wet as long as I am still comfortable.  With full blown raingear I sweat so bad I am soaked anyways and then I really stink.  Wool is great at keeping your scent at a bearable level.
