Scored a nice blacktail this morning
« on: October 22, 2016, 09:51:19 PM »
I was just going to go for a quick morning hunt locally and wouldn't you know it, I found a small blacktail buck right away that I chased around the woods for a while before he disappeared into the thick brush.  Dang near got a shot at him twice but he was about 60 yards away which is just out of my comfortable range and he was nervous and wouldn't allow me to get any closer before running off.  Not long after that I walked up on another small buck about 30 yards away before he spooked and also found the thick brush.

So I continued slowly creeping around the woods to see what else I might run into when a doe surprised me scampering from my left to right about 20 yards away.  And then it happened, a nice buck looking for love followed closely behind and presented me with a hard quartering away shot.  I've shot a few blacktails in my day but nothing approaching this size and a touch of the shakes made me miss the string loop with my caliper 3 times before managing to connect.  Just as he was about to disappear into the brush I took the shot.  Fortunately, my aim was true and I saw him thrash and fall over backward within 5 seconds having only run 20 yards.  It was the easiest blood trail I've ever followed.  22" spread on this guy. :IBCOOL:

Thanks, guys, I'm really happy with this buck.  Most of my blacktails could reasonably be called benchlegs, holleymaster, but this one isn't even close! ;)

Here's another pic to show the spread.

As before Nice buck band wow.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
