i really like my '05 Tundra Double Cab   but there IS one thing... the traction control system.  Last week I got into some gnarly mud on a steep hill.  the traction control system kept braking the wheel that was spinning, resulting in loss of momentum and i was stuck.   >:(  You can't turn it off and it's very annoying.  wanna spin the tires in the rain for fun?  can't do it.  took a 4wd tractor to pull me out.  other than that, i love it!   :chuckle:

With kids go with the crewmax tundra.  I have had mine and with 3 kids it is awesome with all the room.  I am not sure we will ever get rid of this truck.  It really is crazy how much room they have.  With the front seats all the way back and rear facing car seats on both of the sides I can still get to the middle seat by going threw the rear to buckle the 3 year old in that this in the middle..  I bought mine a year old with 12k miles on it with the extended warranty and it has been 3 years and I think I can still sell it for close to the same price I paid.

I'm looking for more room in cab so it will be a quad cab no matter what...I don't want a long bed....that's where I'm torn....I like the Toyota for the smaller logging roads and turn radius...but the full size for the room  :chuckle: I may just have to search for a good deal on a Tacoma quad cab...almost everyone I have found in my price range has had 170k + miles on it

I can 3 point turn around my 2500 quad cab long bed diesel on any logging road out there! It's called skilllz's. :chuckle:

I hate that feature!  I can turn it off in my Chevy pickup though...if I think about it before it's too late.

What is your budget? have you considered a 1st generation Tundra (2000-06)? I get 17 miles per gallon in mine, and that's mostly highway miles. 4wd is pretty decent and it takes bumpy roads quite well. For the double cab, I think you'll have to stick to years 04-06, or maybe 05-06. I think 03 and earlier they just had the access cab and regular cab.

Mine has 265,000 miles and runs like a top. Come see me when you get that in a domestic.   :)

265,000 is pretty good.  My neighbor has 300,000 on a 2004 GMC extended cab.  I couldn't believe it when I saw the odometer, so it does happen.  ;)

In my Chev the traction control is controled by a button on the dash, I have not seen it but since they share the 6 speed tranny it might be the same??? The two/haul mode is the same on both.
The 2014 Tundra is rated really well by consumer report!!! I will be looking at one when I get to 200,000 miles.

I bought a new 13 Tacoma 4dr two years ago next week.  I'm getting close to 24k miles on it.  Had the TRD super charger installed since 3500 miles, shortly after I bought.  The SC is a significant bump in power and now, I couldn't imagine owning it without the SC.  I get 19-19.8 as my avg. in town driving MPG.  Freeway driving I can easily get 24 BUT that's only if I keep the RPM at 2000 or slightly under which is a little less than 70mph.  I've only done that a couple times because I wanted to see how it would do on MPG if I actually tried.  Cruise set at 72-74mph will get me 22-23mpg.  Usually I set my cruise around 77-78 and that drops it all the way down to 19-20mpg which still isn't bad for that speed.

The one thing I will caution anyone about that is looking at ANY of these mid sized trucks is do not forget they are ONLY a mid size.  They are certainly NOT a replacement for a full size pickup.  When I first bought my Taco a couple years ago, I also had a full size 4dr superduty sitting in my shop.  So if I needed a bigger truck for something, I had one at my disposal.  My Superduty spent most of its life as a 3rd vehicle just taking up space in my shop and not getting used so I got the bright idea to sell it.  Now every so often when I need a full size, I'm pissed at myself for selling mine.

If you don't think you'll have a need for a full size, then one of these mid sized trucks will work great for you but if you think you'll ever have a need for a full size down the road, I'd strongly recommend getting a full size now.

I like my 2012 tundra crew max, tons of room inside. but I did have a 3/4 ton dodge diesel before it so there was some sacrifice in towing and like how many miles I could get out of a tank.but had twins on the way and needed a full four door not just a double cab anymore. I was looking for a used tundra for a long time but they hold there value really well and ended up just getting a brand new one.
